The movie was kind of funny until the Rudy G part. That part was kind of low, and a bit of a double standard, imo.
Now, if Rudy was given the impression that she was 15 then I would completely change my tune on it but it looked like she presented herself as an adult conservative internet reporter. She touched him first, made all sorts of obvious advances, and then invited him into the bedroom "for drinks". I mean, he is a single man.
It kind of bothers me that the intent was to shame him for it and had nothing to do with comedy. Honestly, I don't think he should be apologizing.
And yes, I am a liberal poster calling out SBC and defending Rudy Giuliani.

Borat is like a kid in a candy store in today’s America. No one has any critical thinking skills left, with minds dumbed down by an obsession with politics.

You realize the first one made fun of Bush and Republicans?
So maybe conservatives can take a joke after all.
But considering the Borat character, there should’ve been plenty comedic opportunity in making fun of liberals these days. But that’s not often done for some reason.

Regardless..
Rudy Giuliani was planning to frick that girl. I dont blame him. He may not wake up next week, may have been his last chance.

Oh yeah, definitely. Dude has definitely had affairs in his past. He wanted some. He is single and it definitely appeared she was the one pursuing him. He should have just owned it. The footage didn’t appear to show her ever presenting herself as a 15 year old and she sure as hell didn’t look even remotely close to that age, that would be my only issue if she definitely put the 15 year old stuff forward and he thought she was 15.
If anything SBC putting his actress in a position to actually seduce someone for a job, that’s a lot worse than an old single dude wanting to get some.

You heard the Maynard Rogan too
She was 25 years old, btw.

I didn’t think it was good, didn’t even finish it.

While I won't defend Giuliani, I do think that scene was way overblown by many people late last week. I don't think it's a great look to immediately retire to the bedroom with someone interviewing you, and I thought it was pretty obvious it was a set up when SBC came in there claiming audio problems.
I don't think he has much to apologize for though. He's kinda been a sleazebag for several years now, so it was in character for him.

As somebody who has never seen the first one, i thought this one was fricking hilarious. the debutante scene had me rolling

. The only way you don’t think it is funny is if you are a staunch conservative that can’t take a joke about some of the people in the political party.
nah, just find of felt like low hanging fruit to me.
Also not buying the guys he quarantined with were legitimate at all.
I thought the scripted portions of this one provided more laughs than him interacting with people. I did like him using the fax machine guy so much "sup?"
It wasn't terrible, probably the funniest comedy to come out in a while...but that says more about the state of comedies in the last 5-10 years

I thought this one was very funny at times but should have been 20 minutes shorter. Anyone else creeped out by the plastic surgeon and his nurse? Wtf
I don’t agree with the people saying this one is appalling and much worse than the first. It’s basically the same movie just copy and pasted
People are too butthurt over the Rudy scene. Did they provoke him-yes, was he out of line- yes, did it look like a big deal -absolutely not. Let’s move on

The debutante ball was the only scene in this one that made me uncomfortable. But I read this wasn't an "official" debutante's ball, whatever the hell that means. SBC and his producers put an ad in a local paper for it with a $50 entry fee. One guy that was there said a few people realized it was a ruse pretty early on and left.

I mean you could tell the guy was about tell his daughter the whole thing was fake before they cut his line out. The daughter being super pissed off was slightly amusing.

This kind of stuff just doesn't bother me. I'm not watching a documentary. I'm evaluating borat as a comedy. Is it funny or not. I lean more toward yes (mostly). Even if it's 90% fabricated, there's a degree of difficulty here that very few people have been able to pull off, as has been covered in this thread, and it works more than it should. Manipulation is something that bothers me in documentaries, but this is a mockumentary.
Before anyone calls me out, no, it absolutely does not matter that Cohen is currently talking about how real the Giuliani scene is on talk shows. He's a filmmaker promoting his film. It's what directors and actors do on talk shows.

Oh it doesn't bother me either. Just mentioning that for the poster that said the scene was awkward. It looked like most were in on it. Except for the women. And you can't really expect the kind of women at those kind of events to actually have a sense of humor.
