The Chalky family storyline is the only one that doesn't ring true. to me There's such a gulf between who he is and who is wife and kids are that it just doesn't seem plausible that they are all part of the same family.
how so?

how did chalky get permission to marry her?

quote:I would buy the idea of the rough field negro marrying the light skinned intellectual, etc, but they have, what, four kids, none of which are anything like him, or even seem like children who have been raised by someone like him in the house. And his son making fun of him at the dinner table? Do you think a guy like Chalky would put up with that shite? Seems to me like he would have slapped that kid into next week, or more likely, that kid would never, ever say something like that to his father. There just seems to be two factions in the house that seem more like separate entities than people who have grown up in the house together. That doesn't seem real to me. Don't get me wrong, I get the whole "stranger in your own home" theme, but this seems extreme.

This is the easiest part of his back story to believe. The father wouldn't take an active role in raising the children during this time period. Also, where they are facilitates being more like their mother instead of their Texas-born father.

If I recall, the son's impertinence was at the breakfast table immediately after Chalky got home from jail and was in a good mood. And it was a rather slight diss. "You're asking dad for help?" and "If you say so" probably wasn't near enough to have Chalky slapping him into next week.

No doubt. I think there's definitely some foreshadowing there when Jimmy goes to Manny Hurvitz and he basically tells him if he fricks him over he's going to be in pieces in his fridge. shite's going to get real, that's for sure.
I also think it's almost a certainty that Harrow and Jimmy's wife is going to hook up. Not that I can blame either of them either.
I'm interested in seeing if Waxey Gorden physically shows up as a new character. If so could make for some interesting stuff between Rothstein, Lansky, and Luciano if they stay true to things with those characters for the most part.

All I know, is that in the next few episodes, we may see Chalky walking down a dirt road with a shotgun while whistling "Farmer in the Dell".

Just watched on demand...
-Someone is dieing next episode.
-Chaulky is about to embark on a "native son" esque rampage on AC. As someone mentioned earlier "he is the second most powerful man in AC." With his peers struggles, Commodores stroke and Knucky's legal troubles, Chaulky might be the most powerful man in AC and he's about to prove it.
-I've started making my Richard Harrow mask for Halloween. The scene were he sat for Jimmy's wife almost brought me to tears...One of my favorite characters ever, from any medium....phantom of the boardwalk.
-The Oedipus complex continues to compound and it is fricking weird.
-Meyer and Lucky won't put up with this shite much longer.
-The lack of respect Eli gets and the way handles it is hilarious. No one takes him seriously in that goofy arse sheriff's costume.
-The IRA guy is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters. I have a feeling he is about to have a show down with Harrow. It was interesting Knucky choose to detonate the explosives in the still while it was unoccupied.
-I HATE season long threads....New thread next week?

Had to help everyone else out like I had to help myself out. Sorry for being dumb.
quote:
The Oedipal complex is a term used by Sigmund Freud in his theory of psychosexual stages of development to describe a boy's feelings of desire for his mother and jealously and anger towards his father. Essentially, a boy feels like he is in competition with his father for possession of his mother. He views his father as a rival for her attentions and affections.
...and I don't think that's the case. I think the MOTHER has passionate feelings toward Jimmy, which is FUBAR in so many ways.

Meh...I don't think so. I think they just understand each other a little better now.
One more thing. Other than his missing eye, harrow's face wasn't near as messed up as I thought it'd be. Why doesn't he just wear an eye patch? I'd think that'd look less wierd than half face mask.

Agreed, and I don't think Harrow would do that to Jimmy. Jimmy's wife may make a move, but I doubt he does anything. He respects Jimmy's family too much.
Never know though, he may get killed next episode.

For me the thing is I don't have HBO so I download the show Monday when I get home from work and watch it. By the time I come here Tuesday morning to comment everything has already been said about Sunday's show.

A few of you mentioned how chalkys son was picking on him at the dinner table... How was he picking on him? I mustve missed that part

Chalky's little girl ask him to read something, and his son said, "you're asking dad?", "Huh" Not exact, but that's the gist of it. Chalky gave him that evil b lack guy look.

I think he gets off pretty easy with the election rigging, but I think he'll get caught up in the bombing of the barn. Nelson is going get involved now that one of his agents is horribly injured (or, most likely, dies as a result of those burns).

I think it gets Nelson in MORE trouble, as the agents already spotted Nelson in that barn....meaning Nelson should have shut it down before this even happened.

This and didn't he take money form a raid in the earlier episode to pay the whore? I think they re getting suspicious of that too considering the way the guy was eyeballing him at the safe.
He also acts like a dick to them, and really everyone else. I think his character is to show how the temptations/lifestyle of AC can corrupt even the most moral of people if they are placed there.

And didn't Nelson insist on tagging and storing the money even though the other guy said it was his job? No doubt how he pays for his ho. Obvious, I know.
She'll either rat him out or he'll kill her once the baby is born.

Eh, I think he needs to cover a bit more than that...cheek and bit of corner of mouth....gone!

i think he actually likes her more than his wife though. It goes back to what the guy at the still said when he paid him off, "treat a whore like a queen and a queen like a whore". He obviously has a weakness for her as shown by the way he got into this in the first place, and the way he stared at the naked picture on the wall. It's a very holier than thou approach. I guess showing that these incorruptible men of the law were in their own right very flawed as well.

And he got her the Victrola to make her happier...
Still think he'll get rid of her in some form or fashion later.
