it's possible he just takes the baby and she doesn't care and goes on her way to be in the theater productions. he brings the baby home to his wife and they raise it. he'll probably say he "found it" or something.

Still think he'll get rid of her in some form or fashion later.
He'll kill her after she has the baby. No way he lets that lunatic run around flapping her gums after having his child.

let me add that i was really disapoint in how the commodore and all his drama was basically eliminated via deus ex machina. odds are they made him too strong to make nucky a believable counterpart AND they're now going to set up jimmy v. nucky...but for how important he was this season he was basically fricking killed off randomly

I agree. Seriously, let's try an episode thread next week. Somebody start it at around 7 PM on Sunday.

it was more of a show of him masking what he was.

what he was - sick old man
what he tried to be - powerful and youthful (dying his hair, showing his strength by hoisting the ivory tusk etc..)
what he ended up in the end - a withered shell of his former self getting the shite slapped out of him by jimmy's mom.

...and I don't think that's the case. I think the MOTHER has passionate feelings toward Jimmy, which is FUBAR in so many ways.

Yes and no. Jimmy didn't seem too upset when she kissed his mouth. She is definitely the driving force behind it but he seems to allow it to progress, hence the "Oedipus complex continues to compound" comment.

I think her being raped at such a young age triggers this. She sees her son as the type of man she should of had.

i understand that in terms of his character, but in terms of an efficient plot, it just seems like they invested a lot in him the first couple episodes only to discard him swiftly (and indirectly)

Or she sees her son as the man who should be running the city, therefore she runs the city. She did tell Eli and Jimmy that, and I'm paraphrasing, "I didn't s leep with all these old men for nothing." She wants Jimmy in power so she can call the shots.

He was used a step to elevate Jimmy and his mom.

Did it look like they were at a funeral in the previews? I'm guessing Jimmy's mom either followed the slap fest with a pillow face hug or the 'Dore finally slipped away.

Loved the Chalky scenes. He is underappreciated everywhere. At the "town meeting" he gets scolded by the widows and promises retribution and then is quickly dismissed by Nucky. Then the scenes at the house where his family seems to view him as the "field n****" as he put it. They wouldn't be where they are without his hard work and they don't appreciate it at all. Have a feeling we will be seeing another "these were my daddy's tools" scene from him shortly.

I was thinking about that too. It looks like Jimmy and Nucky are on some type of stage when Jimmy said something to him about not knowing what to do anymore.
