I don't think we could ever get a show this good that was made in the US anymore. Maybe not even anywhere except a place like Australia. They are fairly progressive politically, but it seems like they haven't lost the sense that shows on public channels shouldn't divide people needlessly by making political stances that no one is forcing you to make. Or at least the people who make Bluey feel that way for now.

I agree with you, and don’t want to detract from the thread. But there was one kid in the Sign episode that talking about his “mums” at home. That’s something that I noticed when watching yesterday.

Now it didn’t bother me or anything. Just noticed it and kept watching. But it was there.

I just want to say, while I should have known better, I hate all of you. Have been looking for a new show to stream, then ran across this thread, and now I have to stream Bluey

Don't think I have ever watched the entire series straight through as my kids only want to watch it a few times a month and then get distracted with how short the episodes are, which is perfect because it keeps them from wanting to watch TV all day

And stuff like that personally I don't have an issue with. I didn't really have any issue with the gay relationship in Lightyear either. It was there, but barely mentioned and certainly not glorified in anyway. The line for me is when it goes from "this is an aspect to X character" to "this is an aspect to X character, and its great and wonderful and the best thing about them, and anyone who disagrees is hitler"

the problem I think is we have 10x more media outside the actual product.

people get so riled up over a producer or writer or actor saying something is so big and important and then you watch the actual product and it’s almost a footnote.

your example is a good one. they talked up the lesbian relationship ship in Lightyear, everyone got up in arms and it was barely part of the movie.

Another easter egg from The Sign episode is the DJ at the wedding reception is the music guy that plays the musical tubes during the Dance Mode episode. Happened to catch that myself because we saw the Dance Mode episode right after The Sign and it was a "wait a minute" moment.

FYI, the song at the end is Lazarus Drug, by Meg Washington, who is also the voice of Calypso. It was released in 2020 . Wondering how it is trending now..

The fact that Coco's mom is looking at the "you" when she says you're doing great is genius.
So many small things like that are what make this show great.

My kids still ask me what was it like in the 80s.

We might get one more episode for the season
quote:

According to a fairly credible rumor, there's still ONE more episode of Bluey that hasn't aired yet. "The Sign" was the 49th episode of Season 3, meaning one more is missing to match the count from previous seasons. An episode appropriately titled "Surprise" is rumored to drop on April 21, 2024.

Flat Pack could have its own thread. In one episode we see

- Fall of man (rejecting the rules/instructions, “not taking advice from a cartoon dog”)
- Darwinian evolution
- Concept of creation (“we made them”)
- Development of civilization
- Human life cycle
- Identity crisis of adults when children no longer need us
- Death and crossing over
- Heaven/having eternal resting place with Bandit/Chili as god-like figures (“this is heaven”)

It’s just monkeys singing songs mate, don’t think too hard about it

This goddamn dog cartoon.

That hit way too close to home as someone who is currently going through the uncertainty of possibly changing jobs and moving their family from the home that we raised our kids.

And then my 5 year old reaches over and grabs my hand right at the end.

Goddammit.

I didn’t need this tonight.

Flat Pack is the most underrated episode of the show. It’s unfathomable how much deep level meaning was jam packed into a 7 min episode. This could be said for most Bluey episodes but flat pack was my favorite at one point. Then it was Space. Now it’s Cricket.

Flat Pack was the one that, after having seen bits an pieces of it while the kids watched it several times, jumped up and slapped me in the face when I finally sat down and paid attention. "This is Heaven" just did me in.

The Mother's Day episode where the balloon pops... Chilli's face and Bandit immediately grabbing her hand...seems like a silent nod to them having a miscarriage.

I’ve seen the Mother’s Day episode a couple times since this post, and I’m not sure if that part is a nod to them losing a baby previously or if it’s just them knowing that the balloon popping was gonna set Bingo off and make her dad again (since they were trying to cheer her up in the first place). I talked about it with the wife and she thinks it’s the latter. I’m somewhere in the middle.
