It was an amazing and disturbing movie. And, I can assure you, it was even more devastating for its time (1968)if you weren't familiar with the novel.

Ex machina - watched on amazon prime. Had no idea what the movie was about.

Force awakens - the previous movies didnt do much for me ( only liked revenge of sith and empire strikes). I loved this one, wish JJ could redo all of them.

Didn't like Big Hero 6. I thought just like Hancock it started off really well and then derails itself for the sake of unnecessary plot twists instead of building the established complicated characters dealing with real problems. Needlessly forcing the plot along when both had a great initial flow.

If I am going with Pixar give me The Incredibles. A perfect family, popcorn, super hero, spoof flick.

Weird one here but Unforgiven, I had seen many Eastwood cowboy movies when kids and had never seen Pale Rider. Sure I liked the Outlaw Josey Wales, but Unforgiven was something so special on literally every level. the closing scene to this day really hits me hard, when the narrator gives his ending comments on Muney.

Paranormal Activity (2009)

My gf at the time kept telling me about it a day or two before it came out. Her dad got free passes to the movies so we got an invite to an early screening. I honestly didn't know anything about the film except that it was "based on true events". Anyway, I don't think I ever saw that many grown men walk out of a movie theater. Great movie and great experience, shame they ruined it with all of those sequels.

The best one in retrospect was the Monty Python Holy Grail movie. Somehow I made it to the age of eleven without knowing what Monty Python was and asked my mother to rent the movie for me after being told it was good.

Anyway, my brother and I sit down to watch it and we're expecting something like a historical fantasy drama kinda effort. Opening scene doesn't seem to match this, now we're watching a guy pretending to be on horseback being followed by a squire clicking coconuts.

My brother and I stare at each other blankly for five seconds and then burst out laughing.

The Fellowship of the Ring.
My first thought when I saw the thread title. I've always been a bit of a medieval nerd, but had never really gotten into fantasy. When I heard about it I knew next to nothing of the concept other than the fantasy setting, which I thought less of than historical medievalism.

I was blown away after seeing it in the theater. It immediately became my favorite movie, which it remains to this day. It also sparked a newfound interest in all things fantasy related, including books, movies, and especially video games. It was my Star Wars. Basically it was the most influential film in my life as it pertains to my entertainment interests. As I type that I feel a hint of shame.

To date the best time I've had in a movie theater is dawn of the planet of the apes

Best pleasant surprise...kick arse. I thought it would be epic garbage and have an apatow feel to it, WRONG

Not a great movie by any means, barely a good one...but my preconceived notion of what it would be was waaaaaay off

Magnolia. I was somewhat into movies at the time, but this one somehow slipped under my radar. Had a random Tuesday or Wednesday off, and checked the movie schedule in the paper and saw an ad for it with the cast listed. Wondered how I had never heard of it(it had just been released the weekend prior), and went and saw it. Was blown away.

I'd say Captain America The Winter Soldier, but I didn't see it in theaters. Just figured it was another comic book movie, whatever. It turned me into a comic book movie nerd.

Guardians of the Galaxy as well. Knew nothing about them, saw it opening weekend. wife and I walked out of that movie and both were like, "that was surprisingly a really fun movie".

The Matrix

Fight Club
Napolean Dynamite

I'm usually pretty plugged in to upcoming movies, but in all of the above, they weren't on my radar for some reason. All were awesome movies, for different reasons obviously, that I really liked.

Inside Llewyn Davis.

All that I knew was that the Coen brothers had made a movie about a folk singer. Turned out to be one of the best movie experiences of my life.

The Hangover

Went to the theater with my mom who was going to see some movie. I decided at the last minute to watch something different. The Hangover was starting around the same time as her movie so I chose that one. I may have seen a preview of it but didn't recall it much.

That was without questions my best movie experience. I was crying laughing the entire time.

Didn't see it in theater I actually picked it up at a redbox but "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" was a fun movie to watch.
