Read The Wolf's Hour by Robert McCammon. Would make a good movie.

the movie is actually abbot and Costello meet Frankenstein.... but the wolf man does play a prominent role, and this is probably my favorite werewolf movie of all time.

The wolfman (1941) and howling are tied for second. next up would be American werewolf in London.

And it isn't close.

I feel like the wolf story is underused, or outside of AWL and The Wolfman, most movies are fairly average. Ol' Dracula has a ton of really great movies.

This one isn't bad. The man-wolf they used looked pretty good.

But I'll have to go with most and agree with "An American Werewolf in London." Jenny Agutter was smoking back in the day, but, alas, age gets to us all. (She was in "Age of Ultron," in case anyone missed that.)

Edit: did I miss any votes for "Wolf"? Jack Nicholson and James Spader in an actual pissing contest. Ha.

My all time fave is an oldie from BW days - The Werewolf of London (1930s). Also cudoes for The Werewolf (1950s). Newer good ones on my list are: The Howling, Wolf, and American Werewolf in London.

My vote would be for Dog Soldiers or Wolfen. The latter isn't a werewolf movie in the traditional sense, but it's still pretty awesome. I loved the infrared POV shots when they would kill.

was coming here to post this.

a list of the best vampire movies would lengthy and diverse, ripe for debate.

bring up werewolves and youre basically talking about the same 3-4 films. its pretty strange. theres a really great opportunity for somewhere to do a "let the right one in" for werewolves, a kindof coming-of-age, puberty story. and i guess if its already been done it didnt get enough buzz to make my radar.
