Saw this the other night on Netflix. Black plays Bernie Tiede, a mortician in mid 90's Carthage, Texas. The plot is interrupted every few minutes or so with commentary from (many authentic) townsfolk about the story. Very genuine, and very funny. It is also, in my opinion, Black's best acting performance to date.

Very good performance by Jack Black but a little underwhelmed by the movie overall. Did not think it was as good as its RT meter score.

Funny as hell. Will watch again. It probably helps that I grew up a Texas Baptist though

I thought this was pretty good. Black had to fit a pretty odd role.

My Dad recommended it to me and I really didn't know what to expect.
Pleasantly surprised. Even crazier if you spend time researching the actual real-life story.

Watch Bernie then watch Sordid Lives. It's scary how true to small town Texas life both are in many many ways.

I loved Bernie. Also, the thin woman on the porch who is always smoking cigarettes is Matthew McConaughey's mother.
