re: Board Games

Freauxzen had some great suggestions to introduce new people to modern boardgames. I would add:

Splendor
Just One
Mysterium
Wingspan (a touch more advanced)

Some of my favorites lately have been Beyond the Sun, Lost Ruins of Arnak, and Underwater Cities.

Boardgamearena.com is one my favorites. Nice interface and has a good selection of games from family-friendly to heavy strategy. You can play either in real-time or turn-based where you only need to make a couple of moves per day.

Sunday Lunch in Baton rouge

Posted by Charleaux on 9/29/17 at 10:55 am
I'm meeting my parents in Baton Rouge for lunch this Sunday and I was wondering if I could get some recommendations from the Food Board. We're pretty open to any type of cuisine but I'll have my 2 year-old with me so a kids menu or at least a couple of kid-friendly items is preferable. We don't mind a place that offers some brunch items on Sunday but we are not looking for a brunch-only restaurant. Looking forward to the suggestions. Thanks!

Since it does not seem to be playing in 70mm IMAX around New Orleans, is it better to see it in regular 70mm or IMAX?
Won with the Broncos. Can't believe I'm still in it.

But what about some good two player board games?

+1 Patchwork
+1 Lost Cities

My favorite is probably 7 Wonders Duel. Nice little civilization-building game.

If you're around New Orleans, there are about 10-20 people that meet on Sunday nights (6-10ish) at Tubby and Coo's bookstore.

Lots of great games already mentioned! Splendor is another game that everybody loves and usually want to play again.

Mysterium is a great clue-like game using abstract art as clues. Plays great with 4-7 people.

Lots of great titles mentionned already but definitely check out Splendor. Always a hit when I introduce it to people and still te one my wife requests the most.
Other than those already mentioned, 7 Wonders and Splendor are the two that hit the table the most lately.

For bigger groups, you can't go wrong with The Resistance or One Night Ultimate Werewolf.
I completely agree with OP. Great series so far and I guess just because there is no sex and no f-bombs like in his previous it's considered young adult

Highly recommended and I can't wait for the 3rd one to come out.

I was in your situation about 6 months I used meetup (as SG_Geaux linked) to find a nice group. We get up to 20-25 people on Sunday nights which is pretty nice.

For people in Nola that would be interested:

My wife and I received a gift certificate to the restaurant and were thinking of using it this week. Neither of us has been before so we are not sure what to expect.

For those that have been before, any must-have items or dishes to avoid? How's the food/service overall?

Forgot Small World... That's another pretty interesting game worth looking into.

I recently started getting into board games after playing a few of those "gateway" games. Ticket to Ride and Settlers of Catan are two that I've played that are usually mentioned as good gateway games. Both are really good but I can't speak on their expansions.

With that said, I have to agree with fouldeliver regarding 7 Wonders. More of a card game rather than using a traditional board but definitely worth getting (or at least trying). My current favorite.
I'd go to one of Rick Bayless' restaurants, Topolobampo or Frontera Grill, for Mexican.

My brother plays a lot of board games and introduced me to several of them over the holidays and it definitely made me want to play those a lot more. I had tons of fun trying the aforementioned 7 Wonders and Ticket to Ride.

We also played Small World and Jamaica which are a lot of fun too. For a quick 2-player game, Mr. Jack is pretty fun too. Anybody else try these?
