Fox, Ben Affleck & Matt Damon Win Hot Package On Multi-Million Dollar Theft Of McDonald’s Monopoly Game

EXCLUSIVE: Fox is poised to win the hot lit property in the marketplace at the moment, a giant Happy Meal that everyone wanted. Ben Affleck is attached to direct, and Matt Damon to star in a true crime story written by Jeff Maysh and published in The Daily Beast several days ago on an ex-cop who rigged the McDonald’s Monopoly game, allegedly stealing over $24 million dollars and sharing it with an unsavory group of co-conspirators who offered kickbacks to the mastermind. The Pearl Street partners will produce, and the Deadpool scribes Paul Wernick & Rhett Reese will write the script.

Funny thing is I've always assumed the "sweepstakes" associated with sodas and fast food places are scams.

Someone published a long form article about it last week. Really interesting story. I imagine the movie is going to look a lot like Goodfellas.

probably. or it could be from

Just like the Monopoly board game, which was invented as a warning about the destructive nature of greed, players traded game pieces to win, or outbid each other on eBay. Armed robbers even held up restaurants demanding Monopoly tickets.

It'll be The Town with more humor and less violence.

And I'm AOK with that.

Jacobson’s position, where he oversaw the printing process, reportedly allowed him access to the winning Monopoly pieces, which he was tasked with hiding in McDonald’s packaging factories across the U.S. And in 1989, just “to see if I could do it,” Jacobson gave his brother-in-law a winning game piece worth $25,000 at a family event in Florida.

Years later, in 1995, after Jacobson claimed to witness Simon Marketing re-do a drawing that randomly selected a winner in Canada (he said the company didn’t want the bigger prizes sent up north), he realized the game was flawed and decided to go all-in, sending the winning pieces off to acquaintances and friends of friends, who would then redeem the prizes and give Jacobson a cut.

Over the following years, Jacobson’s crime network encompassed “a sprawling network of mobsters, psychics, strip club owners, convicts, drug traffickers, and even a family of Mormons, who had falsely claimed more than $24 million in cash and prizes,” according to the Daily Beast.

You should read the article. If you were thinking you were gonna find boardwalk or the one railroad you needed in the late 90's to win the million, this guy was selling it to someone else.

The trial started the day before 9/11 so most of the details were never reported widespread.

So there is no script? Just a story about this scam and they have a director and lead? No one owns the rights, correct? Bc there is nothing to own?

Agreed.

Affleck's not Spielberg, but he's a good director.
