Batman 1989 is still a masterpiece comic book film.

Rewatched this weekend in 4K. Loved it as a kid and I’ve only come to appreciate it more. I’m not sure who is my favorite Batman still, but Michael Keaton is still the best Bruce Wayne for me. Nicholson’s Joker is still great to watch and it continues to be my favorite portrayal of the character, though I still loved Ledger and Phoenix as the character. I just prefer the mobster Joker. Great performances all around. Burton’s Gotham is amazing. The set pieces and look still hold up for me. Lastly, the score is beautiful.
End fight scene still holds up for me.
Anyone else still a fan of this film?

Other than Batman straight up killing a lot of people, sure does.

Yes its great. Maybe people today would appreciate it more if Jack Nicholson died after filming it.

It will always be my favorite. Mainly because of the age I was when it came out

It's the closest they've come to making a the movie equivalent of a comic book, in terms of tone and feel. A great balance of realism and fantasy with a touch of camp.

Have always loved it. Been years since I’ve watched it all the way through.

I LOVED it as a kid but it is pretty flawed by today's standards. That doesn't stop it from being super entertaining.
In terms of flaws. Keaton is kind of laughable as Batman, and the suit he can barely move in it. He's like 5'5".
And I will die on the hill that while the Nicholson Joker is entertaining, its just Jack Nicholson playing Jack Nicholson with some clown paint on.

I'll never picture Bruce Wayne as a short normal looking dude with curly hair.
I believe this movie gets love like the OP is because of nostalgia and it being the first somewhat serious batman movie.
I watched this movie a lot as a kid too but it just doesn't hold up for me.

But for real, nowadays his shining character would fit the joker character better.

Modern comic book movies tend to take themselves very seriously.
1989 Batman doesn't do that. Nobody is trying to save the entire world from destruction. There are no CGI explosions or 10 minute action set pieces.
A man dressed up in bat suit fighting crime is fundamentally a slightly goofy concept and 1989 embraces that just enough to make it fun but not too much to make it stupid.

My favorite Batman film and it came out before I was born.
Nolan’s films take a back seat to both of Burton’s imo.

I like it more than The Dark Knight.

Gentlemen, let’s broaden our minds. Lawrence!

I was never a huge fan to begin with but Batman Begins just destroys it.
It’s some what enjoyable in a campy, cheesy way like the 60s TV show

I was pretty young when it came out but I hated it then and still do. The other garbage Batman movies that came out afterwards kept me from watching any of the Nolan Batman movies until after Dark Knight was released.

folks talk about how batman the detective has never been properly demonstrated on the big screen, but this version investigated the shite out of Joker's smiley compound and figured out that combinations of various beauty products was the culprit.

Yes! Love this scene, as well as the “lets get nuts” scene.

Umm, yea. No. I like it, but it doesn't touch Nolans.
It fit the movie perfectly, but Nicholsons Joker just didnt do it for me. I just dont see how someone could like that performance over Ledgers. As far as bad guys go with the Burton Batman movies, I'll take DeVito as Penguin over Nicholsons Joker. Hear me out, even though I'm not going to explain it, but hear me out... give me Carreys Ridler over him too.
