It was moved due to COVID protocols
Which we all know is bullshite on two fronts
1. Why only his movie and not all three?
2. There are a ton of stories saying otherwise. It was moved over a contractual agreement with the studios over the release of Oppenheimer

You realize these 3 studios are in competition, right? They're supposed to do each other favors?

It sounds like you don't realize Christopher Nolan also owns his own production company, or that Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach also own their own. Dead Reckoning is a Paramount movie. That's a "bigger" studio. You're saying only dumb things.

Going to see Barbie tonight with the lady then Oppenheimer tomorrow with the boys. Gonna be sweet.

That article doesn't help your argument.
It's just an article stating that he's mad he's only getting one week of imax. Not that there is some conspiracy out to get him and make his movie fail or even that he's mad about the release date in general.

I’m unclear how this reality has only hit Tom Cruise now. The dates for these upcoming 2023 movies have been established for some time now,

One of these blockbusters was going to have to give, potentially by moving its release date. The trouble is, almost all of the movies in play in this conversation did change their release dates, holding out hope of a big-screen presentation.

You realize you are arguing MY point here right?
Had MI been placed on the week it was meant to, it wouldn’t be forced out of screenings by two movies releasing at the same time. The studios are forcing it lose screens when it is telling theaters WHAT to play.
In no way is 235 million opening weekend “underperforming” relative to other movies in the last 3 years unless you are comparing it to Top Gun.
If you think placing the MI opening movie the week before these films was Cruise’s idea and is best for the performance of the movie or that studios aren’t METICULOUS on their placement of opening weekends, you’re delusional
You do realize Cruise owns his own production company and bigger studios can’t have him continuing to outperform their “message” based movies
MI Dead Reckoning's budget is the reason why it's underperforming, it was delayed several times during COVID so that's why there's talk of it not being a success. They needed a huge opening weekend and follow up weekend and it looks like now it'll be a mild success financially.
If you want to point the finger at anyone, point it at Nolan and Paramount. Nolan left WB over their handling of Tenet so he teamed up with Paramount and they're bending over backwards for him, including releasing Oppenheimer over the summer when this is clearly a film better fit for November/December but Nolan loves his summer blockbusters. Since Paramount approved July, that only leaves Mission Impossible with their opening weekend on IMAX before Nolan's movie is released. Which is why they started early showings last Tuesday.
it's not a conspiracy theory or agenda against Cruise, it's just gross negligence by a film studio and inflated ego of a director, neither are new in Hollywood.

This is the world we live in.
Barbie is PG-13 with a runtime just under two hours.
Oppenheimer is R with a three hour runtime and everyone wants to see it on the biggest screen possible.
Barbie is going to do more than Oppenheimer, pretty easy to figure out why. Go on your theater app or Fandango and look at how many more showings there are of Barbie compared to Oppenheimer. I know people that can't make Oppenheimer this weekend so they're waiting until next weekend to see it on the best screen possible instead of a standard showing, it'll still have some legs.

There are just way more chicks and homos than there are people with triple digit IQ's. Plus, Barbie is on about 5x as many screens.

Barbie is on 4,200 screens.
You're right. That is 5x more than the 3,600 screens Oppenheimer is on.

The Theater here in Lafayette has way more screenings. Runtime is also a factor.

Barbie was actually similar to Lego movie, great design and some clever banter. Sets were and city were colorful and imaginative, some convoluted plot stuff but nothing major. Thought Margot and Ryan Gosling were good at playing the range of a doll becoming self aware. Had a nice human moment at the end but overall it is what it is, a silly cartoonish movie that brought up existential points while celebrating the Barbie brand. Would recommend - 8.7/10

Typical sophomoric blueboy take, can’t fathom the idea that Barbie is a massive brand with broader appeal and a shorter movie overall. Don’t worry, most people grow out of their middle school mindsets, eventually

I can't imagine why any adult men would want to see Barbie
Both Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling have shown they can be pretty funny and it's fairly different than anything else that's been released in the last decade.
I don't think wanting to see this would be any different than something like Mean Girls or Legally Blonde.

Certainly not any straight men, that's for sure.

I saw it with 2 straight men. But, they watch a lot of movies. I definitely enjoyed it more than both of them.
I’m considering it a horse movie.
