Your images also demonstrate the opposite. In a standard superhero comic book, there will be zero to maybe 3 jokes in the story. The pics you show are spread out over 60 years. Not one comic book or story arc. Also some of the pics are just a sign of the times. However, Ragnarok (the movie) was almost constantly throwing out jokes. This would basically equate to several jokes per page of a comic book. And since the MCU has turned more and more towards humor, this would equate to almost every issue of every comic book having multiple jokes on each page.
Also, I don't think the issue is Thor throwing out a few one liners. It's that everyone in the movie throws out multiple one liners.
So if folks want to see a comic book based comedy, fine. Go see a Richie Rich movie. Like they say, it's popcorn flicks. I enjoy some humor, but I prefer a little more seriousness in superhero movies than the MCU is currently showing. Just my preference.
And finally, thanks for the pics. Looking over old comic book pics is a great way to start my day

I'm not going to disagree that there were too many jokes in Ragnarok. There were. Maybe we disagree on the amount - and there's all sorts of weird time in movies and comic books, so saying 1-3 jokes per "story" \or multiple jokes on every page is wrong if you really think about it (a movie typically shows 3-5 days, look at most of the MCU films. A typical comic book - a few hours of time MOST of the time. Many jump ahead, but most don't show more than a day). We don't have to get that deep. Ragnarok was a bit much, but one liners, quips, etc. these are normal comic book tools and they are used in most comic books. I mean I can post a Simonson Thor in full, but I'd probably be banned.
But to say that Raganarok is not a good representation of Thor is way off, that was really the point I was getting at. Ragnarok is pretty close, although they aren't using the "man out of place" humor as much as someone like Simonson did. Thor is a goofball, though - Unless your only experience with Thor is Ultimate Thor.
Thor probably would scream like a girl, he's an epic man of epic emotions.

Totally fair, then the MCU may not be your deal. Other than maybe having too many jokes in GotG2 and Raganarok, I think they've nailed the perfect tone for comic book movies that don't hate their roots. Look at those panels - that lava panel shows that the opening scene in Raganarok is 100% right out of the history of Thor. Marvel has nailed the intersection of modernization and Silver Age perfectly. That's why people enjoy them, and I think why they are successful. Less jokes, yes I agree. More serious? Not so sure.

I grew up with the 90s stuff, but man, those old comic books had a naive perspective that is just tough to beat. Enjoyable all around. I did a read of Frank Miller's Daredevil recently and was blown away at how light it was compared to Miller's later work. I had forgotten that he could crack some jokes.

This I agree with.

There were too many jokes in Ragnarok. But it’s still one of my favorite MCU films without question
This review is from Clay Cane and it’s spot on I think

There is a fissure between critics and audiences, which I can admit. The movie is critic-proof. 'Avengers: Infinity War' is superhero porn, strictly for the fans, while 'Black Panther' was undeniably excellent, transcending the comic book fan base.

Can't wait to see this

Sounds like the movie is two and a half hours of fan-service. And honestly, I'm OK with that.

Aside from being based on Marvel comic properties, I fail to see the resemblance.

Solid movie with great visuals. If it wasn't for the current social and political climates it wouldn't have done nearly as well as it did at the box office. Story was good, action scenes were about average and visually it was great putting it in the top tier. Transcending comic book fanbase.....no.

I find it interesting that Avengers is so close to Panther with Panther still being in theaters. I haven’t seen Panther or Homecoming. I’m reluctant to see Infinity Wars without those two. I know I wouldn’t be lost or anything, but I don’t want to be distracted by anything I could be missing especially with some of the Panther characters being involved.

Go see BP tonight and rent SpiderMan tomorrow night

The movies opening to big numbers WW. My final prediction - domestic $630, OS $1.2b for a total of $1.8b

I think what he means is a lot of people outside of the typical comic book movie fanbase saw it which is absolutely true. You don't make more domestically than The Avengers w/a movie starring a fairly unknown character w/just comic book fans seeing it.
