so Thor get his arse kicked by Thanos and Dr Doom.

Any decent villain for an entire Avengers team cannot be beaten by just Thor or Hulk... otherwise what's the point?

It's the JLA problem.... Superman is so powerful, why bother with anyone else? So they have to come up with villains who can't be beaten by just Superman sometimes.

Silver Age Thor got his arse kicked monthly in his comic and others. Then he’d come back to win, usually in the first page of the next issue because Stan refused to give his readers a done-in-one comic.

Ok..so I haven’t watched anything Marvel since Endgame except for all the Spiderman movies. Is there anything that is necessary to watch prior to Doom so as to not be lost.

That trailer looks great to me. I'm excited.

Im excited too. It looks like it will be great.

But people need to temper their expectations. The first 4 avengers movies were unprecedented. Unanticipated and culminated in a way that Im not sure can EVER be replicated.

That doesn't mean we cant enjoy some of this stuff. Provided its not garbage like most of post EG Mavel.

So is there any reasonable explanation as to how he got God tier powers?

Thor bested Thanos with the Infinity Gauntlet right before the snap but Doom can stop his ax with 2 fingers?

I know they need to sell the threat but c’mon.

My guess would be magic. While Reed Richards embraced science, Doom expanded into the dark arts in the hope of bringing his dead mother back.

Same assumption here. You can think of it as he has the intellect of Reed Richards, and a stronger mastery of the mystic arts than Stephen Strange. Put those two together, and you can rationalize his power.

Theories state that the Doom used magic to counter Stormbreaker as well as countering Captain Marvel that's what the symbols on his shoulder plates are apparently for.

Not to mention he is an extremely powerful magic user already

Because right now, it just seems like an overpowered bad guy the Avengers will figure out how to kill in 1-2 movies.

The reason the Tobey Spiderman movies (at least the first two) worked so well and to this day are still so well-liked is because they had a clear scope and scale to them.

You've got a guy who fights crime in New York. That's a constraint. You've got villains that range from street thugs to basically terrorists with fancy equipment. The power levels and stakes are realistic (for a superhero movie) and clear to everyone in the audience.

Now we have villains that can't be stopped, can show up anywhere and everywhere in infinite universes, and want to destroy everything (for the most part)..... but wait! There is the All-Powerful Widget! All we have to do is get the All-Powerful Widget and we can stop the unstoppable (insert bad guy)! *good guys spend 30 minutes to an hour of the film obtaining or building the All-Powerful Widget* *they use it on the bad guy and save the day*. Rinse and repeat. And if someone dies (aka their contract runs out and they either weren't popular enough for their cost or just done with the MCU) they can just be brought back later either as a permanent cast member again or via cameo with the infinite universes.

Superman has always had the power level issue so modern movies use him as the all-powerful widget or focus on how the world would treat and react to a being like him (which can be an interesting story), but even Superman's baked-in issues aren't nearly on the level of what Marvel is doing.

If Disney/Marvel were smart and wanted to keep people engaged while also making better movies, they would use the doomsday ark to close off the multiverse concept entirely somehow. I fully understand the benefits of bringing people back and the hype that creates, but long term I think it will gradually kill off interest in these movies.

MCU or Supernatural? I'm almost done with a re-watch and I forgot how freaking often that happened. Seems like at least one per season from 5 on and it definitely erases any tension they're trying to build.

I'm in. Downey's accent as Doom looks great.

I can’t even hear RDJ in that accent. It’s either that good or they’re using a different voice actor when he’s in the mask. I hope it’s really RDJ

For big F4 fans, are they making Doom too OP? I’m not into F4 so not sure but him blocking Thor’s axe at full strength with just a hand seems ridiculously OP

Edit: I see this was discussed above but still seems extreme

Yikes. I've seen like four of those. Will be hard to skip an Avengers in the theatre so might just have to be lost watching it.

ummmm.....what? You do realize Tony Stark is NOT Doom right? Robert Downy Jr. plays them both. That's all.
