It kills me that James Cameron has wasted the 2nd half of his career on these.

The Avatar movies are two of the top 3 highest grossing movies of all time. I wouldn't say that's wasting your career.

Not sure if you are history buff but humans have been known to kill or subjugate each over resources and sometimes frick up the environment in the process. Thats kind of our MO.
thank goodness we have a movie and 2 sequels to continue to ram that down our throats!

I'd definitely rather another True Lies or T2 or Aliens from him, or something like The Abyss (which is grossly underrated).

I agree. I hear he is working on adapting Ghost of Hiroshima and will work on that in between the next Avatar films....so that is something to look forward to in the future.

His production company also purchased the rights to Joe Abercrombie’s latest novel The Devils. It’s a medieval fantasy story set in an alternate history of Europe with elves, vampires, werewolves, and other fantastical people and creatures.

I mean you could apply anti capitalist's , anti imperialist's critique to any number of movies that most folks love....was Robocop, Total Recall, the Alien films ramming anti corporate greed down our throats? Is Star Wars, Dances with Wolves, The Last Samurai all just anti Imperial( in turn from your POV Un- american) woke non sense.

i just appreciate a movie (esp. one with an eleventy zillion dollar budget) to spend a little more time on nuanced characters; nobody is just flat out 'I'M EVIL AND WANT TO WIPE OUT BLUE PEOPLE ON PLANET AVATAR MUAHAHAHA'

thats like a movie script a 7yo would write.

my biggest gripe is for all the cgi hullabaloo, the characters are one-dimensional stick figures. just give them some depth and feelings and shite. it appeals to the most basal audience 'yeah, get that guy that enjoys killing babies!!!' reaction.

just not my thing. nobody IRL is that way.

Maybe wasting his career is a bit harsh but we would just like to see more creative output from him and we say that as folks that love his films.

Now that I agree with and its why I didnt like Avatar 2 much. I excused the simple story and Dances with Wolves retread of the first one as it was just so damn impressive on a technical level and Jake's story was kinda compelling, but I just couldn't give two shits about the characters or story in part two.

So what’s the plot?

Just kidding, we know the plot.

At this point in his career he is not going to make another T2 or even True Lies. He produced Alita Battle Angel and supposedly will make a second one so that's at least something different from him.

Why not? He is only 70 and seems like he s got plenty of fuel in the tank. I mean he is working on a script for an new Terminator right now and this Ghost of Hiroshima project sounds really interesting. I think...hope.... we will get more from him than just Avatar till he is dead.

It’s probably just James Cameron buying up at least a billion in tickets.

Seriously though, this one may not perform like we remember with the foreign box office the way it is rn. Studios are concerned about these monster budget movies now.

I’d be very surprised if Fire and arse doesn’t make at least a billion dollars

I looked at the budget for this one and it’s 250 million vs the 460 million Avatar 2 was. Not sure if those numbers are accurate, but that was interesting. I wonder why.

Apparently Avatar 2’s budget ballooned because of covid. Hopefully that’s all it is. Or this is just the early budget report for 3.
