To me it felt every character dropped 20+ IQ points..

Because the writers are 20+ IQ points less than the creator of the source material.

You control who you follow. Don't follow people that post anything that "Kills" something for you. Just quit following those people as soon as they post something that you don't want to read.

Read some of every person's timeline before you follow anyone. Don't follow them if they post things you don't want to read.

Like if you told me at the beginning of the season Bran would be king, I'd have said yea that makes sense he can warg into whatever he wants and has an infinite amount of knowledge. But when you show me he basically did nothing the entire season and Tyrion randomly decided he has the best story so he should be king, and everyone just went along with it.. thats when I say wtf.

Good point

Fan theories are made when the show is good! A rich background is the driver. People are not mad that their personal theories did not manifest, they are mad because the end had no tie to the rich background.

And many times the writer might be forced to change his story because he could he accused of riping off the fan theory. They would have to pay for the right to use the storyline and possibly royalties. Lawsuits are a bitch

Didn't hurt Breaking Bad, in fact during the final season, reading fan theories between episode was free entertainment. However the show exceeded any fan theories.

This is why The Last Jedi was considered subpar.

Why did theories become a thing on this board? People have fun with it, especially on a show with wild twist and turns like GoT or Lost. I don’t know anyone who is angry their guesses didn’t come true. People are capable of opinions and theories....

That's not how it works.

The network owns the rights to the show. Therefore any creative decisions the showrunners make, even if they are copied verbatim from an internet message board, are owned by the network.

It’s pretty terrible writing to say “oh they figured out all our clues and foreshadowing? So now the expect the unexpected? frick em, let’s go a completely different way”

I mean Trying to figure out the clues is part of the fun.

Foreshadowing is a literary tool for a reason.

Yes, I think you nailed it. I wouldn’t have come up with some of the GOT theories on my own, but once they were in my head from the message boards, I was disappointed when they didn’t play out. I think GOT would have been a lot better if I had never read a single theory.

As someone who avoided any and every fan theory, it really wouldn’t have helped.

Its rewarding to have your theories bloom

The Tower of joy theory was paid off aster like 20 years of book readers speculating and it was great.

It's GRRM's fault for taking so long to finish the story. Then he let them start changing the storyline because of money. #thelongmeltcontinues

I watched GoT over the last couple months and got caught up like a couple days before the finale.. Never got into any of the theories nor did I have time to think of my own since I was constantly watching. And I was still disappointed with season 8

Agree and I think we first saw this in the prequels. Sure they weren’t good movies but everyone had their own idea of how Darth Vader became Darth Vader. There was no win in that situation and it’s gotten worse with the years with other shows.

That's more of a case of- it's better to leave some things to the imagination.
The prequels, and the Solo film. Who knows, they might actually have been good, but nobody really wants backstories fleshed out for iconic characters. Legends are always better.

I feared the same thing with Amazon's Middle-Earth show. We're all hyped right now, but when they hinted that it would be the adventures of younger Aragorn I cringed

***note- I just looked into this show again, and am now incredibly psyched up about it. Seems they AREN'T going the young Aragorn route, they are doing the Second Age!

Which is fantastic, and what Star Wars should have done- go into the established universe, and explore areas and people not yet shown onscreen. Explore the mythos, not the individual.

It's fans that think they are cinema experts just because they look up a few terms on the internet and use them when their crack pot theory doesn't happen.

Other than Breaking Bad I have watched all of the other Hall of Fame shows after their run, and therefore had no social media or forums to influence my perceptions.

Through most of the binges I would occasionally poke my head in a forum thread or comment section of an episode review to see what the masses were thinking. 9/10 they were bitching and moaning about something.

Social media and online forums are a double edged sword. They bring people together to share an event in real time as a community which makes people happy. But they also produce a lot of negativity and unrealistic expectations.

I look forward to the day I sit down to binge GoT for the first time with zero expectations. Other than lots of T&A, an episode about a red wedding where a bunch of people die, and the 5 minutes of the finale I saw where curly haired boy killed blondie.

Expect a few necro bumps from me when that time arrives.

Yeah. Fan theories. That was the problem with the prequels.... Without those they would be masterpieces of cinema
