Rowling managed to finish the series in a way that was pleasing to the majority of fans. I came up with a whole slew of theories and not a single one of them turned out to be true. However, I too was pleased because the writing down the stretch was very solid. The plot made sense and the characters evolved with the story in a very satisfying way.
THIS!!!
And there were no revelations that killed the character's logical progress. Rowling could've easily turned Ron evil with the excuse that we should've known it was coming because he frequently was jealous of Harry. She didn't...because it wouldn't have made sense. We saw Ron as what he is: flawed, but still loyal and brave.
There also was no using a main focus as a distraction. Imagine if there was all this focus on Harry, and it turned out that he couldn't actually kill Voldemort because Neville was the ACTUAL chosen one. Why? Because red herring.
