Considering the eponymous ship is stuck in ice and miles away; half the crew is already dead and we know everyone dies . . . I can't see them making a 2nd season.

Same here - I've been trying to get my friends to start watching. I don't keep up with many shows and usually just catch them a few days later but every episode of this show I've been parked in front of the TV at 8pm and only get up during commercials.

And I think that was part of the plan to cut the Hickey seen short. Because it left me confused - I don't recall what Crozier speech he was talking about. And Idk about you but I don't think we've seen the last of Lady Silence.

I posted in the other thread - but my one issue with this episode was how convenient it was that Tuunbaq showed up right before they hung Hickey. After they've gone how long without seeing him?

Earlier, I think Crozier strongly urged that they start walking out but the former captain was insistent that they wait it out. Crozier started making plans to disobey orders and walk out anyway. Can't remember what stopped him though. I think this is the "abandonment" Hickey was referring to.

So none of those scenes the past 2 weeks were shot outside? Monday’s episode was interesting as the monster returned. Just in retaliation for the Inuit that were murdered? Only 2 episodes left. The expedition is falling apart from the inside too.

I'm sure it isn't. Hell, I hope they see her again if only for Doc Goodsir's mental well-being. That dude has it bad for that chick, and she was like "peace, I'm out."

That didn't bother me really, especially since that's basically what the show is about and the fact that they still had Lady Silence with them and it is obviously connected to her (or her people). Do we know how far they've gone on foot so far?

Could be. I don't remember Crozier talking about abandoning everybody. Did he and I just missed that? It's so hard keeping up sometimes with the way they all talk.

I never put on subtitles when watching British shows/movies, but I have to for this one for some reason. I think some of it is the terminolgy they use on top of the heavy accents that make it tough for me to understand sometimes.

Same here.

I also started to read the book - I got 300 pages in and decided that it's not a good idea to read the book and watch the series at the same time. I'll hold off on he book until the series is done.

I agree. They’re all getting desperate now.. the way things have progressed is amazing. Each episode they get closer and closer to losing it

Yea things are falling apart at the seams for them. The lead poison, mutiny, Tuunbaq, and cannibalism are squeezing them towards an unfortunate ending..

I've really enjoyed this show-can't wait for season 2...ha...

Do tell... I would like to kill that mofo

I have really enjoyed this series from the beginning. I think a lot of potential viewers miss out on good shows that have slow pacing, they can't stick with it long enough to enjoy the story. Taboo was something like this in that regard. Can't imagine pulling boat sleds across rocky terrain while dying of starvation and/or lead poisoning or whatever the contaminated cans have caused.

I absolutely do not understand the lack of interest in this series. Even though I know how it ends, I am still on the edge of my seat. The acting is incredible - especially the actors portraying Goodsir and that shite Hinkey.

I started reading the book 2 weeks ago but stopped because the differences are confusing. While the screen adaptation of the book is very different, it is not bad. It doesn't bastardize the original. Most of the differences are based on time constrants and a visual product vs a descriptive product. IE the book goes into in depth detail about the construction, design, sail rigging, and cargo of each ship. There is quite a bit of information about Darwin and the HMS Beagle. While it makes for a good read, it doesn't play out well in a movie.

Usually movies or tv shows based on a book suck in comparison to the original. In honor of Tom Wolfe's passing, I present exhibit A The Bonfire of the Vanities. I walked out of the theatre less than half way through that abomination.

RIP Mr. Wolfe, you'll be missed.

Another outstanding episode. Hodgson trying to maintain his officer status by separating from the other men to eat human meat off of fine china was particularly well done.

Why did Hickey order the capture of Crozier? What's the end game in that?

They are calling this a season finale rather than series finale.

I noticed this too. Leads me to believe they may have a second season. Found this article that states a second (and subsequent) seasons would not focus on the same story.

As late as 1852-1858, there are reports of Inuit claiming to have seen Crozier and another man in the area. For perspective, the ships were abandoned in 1848. Still lots of fodder for the series to be extended.
