Lady In The Water hurt me so bad. I’ve never recovered and I never will.

I actually liked Old and The Visit. The Happening and the Split sequel were probably his 2 worst. Unpopular opinion: The Village is fricking great.
The real unpopular opinion is that Split sucks (unless you’re referring to Glass.)
Village is great. It and signs are my favorite two MNS movies.
I think the twist is just so severe that people are more harsh on it than something like Prestige, 6th Sense, Usual Suspect, etc. because you can’t view the movie the same after you know. You can watch the other and see where the twist/deception was coming the whole time. Village was just wildly out of left field.

It’s not bad it’s just boring and inconsequential. Happening and After Earth are what really hurt me. I never saw avatar though.

The wife wanted to see this last night so we went.
It was funnier than I thought it was going to be,.but I don't think it was intentional.

Post some spoilers up in this bitch
Ok. Here you go...
SPOILERS:
There really is no twist. Josh Hartnett's character is a serial killer called The Butcher. He keeps his victims in abandoned houses and monitors them on his phone. The closest thing to a twist is that it turns out his wife knows about him and is the one who tipped off the police.

He is jeckyl and Hyde for sure. He’s had more bad than good the last ten years or so. But, you just never know. One movie I’ll be pleasantly surprised then he’ll out do himself with a Top 5 worst ever like the Happening or After Earth.
I definitely won’t go to the theatre for his stuff. Happening was the last and the only movie I’ve actually left the theater pissed off.

To me, the scenes of them actually watching and participating in the concert were tough to sit through. I was relieved when that portion was over. From there, the story really goes off the rails. Especially the second limo ride.
All the while, this image kept popping up in my head. Except with darker hair.

SPOILERS:
Actually, it’s worse than that. Tipping off the police, by telling them she suspects her husband is the Butcher would have made sense but then you couldn’t have the whole absurd plan of detaining every single adult male at a huge concert.
Instead the wife found one of the places her husband used to bring his victims. And her plan to catch him was to find the receipt he used to pay for the concert and plant it in the house so the police would find it. But she only put part of the receipt in there so the police couldn’t use it to actually track down her husband. Why any of this happened this way is beyond any logic whatsoever, even movie logic. As the movie goes on you are stunned at the absurd behavior of the characters and the confounding decisions they make.
Oh, and the only way they get out of the concert without getting caught is that Josh Hartnett literally finds M. Night Syamalan and tells him that his daughter is recovering from cancer so that she will be chosen to go back stage and meet the singer after the show. The director of the film is the device that is used to get them out. Blatant Deus ex machina. I could go on and on but just listen to those of us who suffered so that you don’t have to.

Without any thought of all the people at the concert her little scheme puts in danger especially her own daughter. And maybe I missed this part but what was it that made the police so sure the Butcher used that house in the first place? Sounds like it was pretty clean. Did they find DNA of a victim there or something? Or did they just assume the tipster had Wonder Woman powers like the FBI profiler and Lady Raven?

Can’t get hurt if you don’t watch his bullshite.

Wasn’t as bad as I thought. It entertained me and the wife. Not gonna watch a second time but a good flick to see.
Posted on 8/3/24 at 10:29 pm to WaltTeevens
Saw it tonight, took FOREVER to get going and when it did was waiting for a “holy shite” surprise moment… which never came
It was entertaining, but nothing I would ever consider watching again under any circumstance
He’s gone full woke with his characters and it’s not even questionable at this point

Village is great.
That scene in The Village where the blind girl reaches out and touches one of the creatures’ claws is one of the best jump scares I’ve seen in a movie that’s not a straight up horror film.

I feel insulted by this movie.
I cannot believe M Night is the same guy who made the first four movies of his career. This has to be a Truman Copote ghostwriting for Harper Lee kind of situation, because Night has completely lost the ability to write scenarios that have any sense of plausibility or dialogue that doesn’t sound alien. People just don’t act or talk like he portrays them in his movies of late. It’s insane.
Every single conflict in this movie is resolved in the most non-sensical, luckiest way just because it needs to happen right then or else the plot can’t continue on this path. It’s patronizing and frankly, insulting.
I can’t even begin to list all of the absolute batshit potholes and nonsensical character decisions that allowed this movie to continue when it should have been over within 45 minutes.
M Night…I’m done with you.

I think that people were so ready for “what’s the twist” that they weren’t able to enjoy it actually happening IMO. The scene of touching the claws then actually seeing a monster attack BDH after Hurt says “there were rumors of creatures…”
Most other criticisms of MNS I agree with but village and signs are all time great suspense/horror movies.
People forget that he rocked out 4 straight Bangers, then did 1 ok one (Lady in the Water) followed by 3 stinkers, then hit Visit, Split, Glass, and Old which were pretty decent.
The three stinkers epitomize his career more than they should.

I honestly can’t understand how The Visit and Old get as much love as they do.
The visit is utterly ridiculous and every character in Old talks like they are autistic (Hi, I’m ____ my job is ____ and I feel this way about ____).

I had the exact thought while watching this movie. How can this be the same guy who put together the exquisite Signs?
Spielberg may make a move here and there that just doesn't quite work for me (West Side Story)....but I don't think he puts out things of poor quality.
This was a terrible, terrible movie.

Old is as bad as The Happening but with less unintentional comedy.

Harnett makes it worth the watch, would like to see him in more stuff with better writing, feel like they should’ve just kept it all inside the concert, once the plot moves past that, it gets pretty silly
