Well not that I disagree with this in general, I think the intention was to basically say Mitch will become the Randall of the school in a few years

That’s why Randall is friends with so many groups, because he was basically Mitch before he became a sports star and had seniors take him out for beers and make him “cool” to his age group

Mitch is a dweeb in this movie, but he’s for sure getting to hangout with it’s these seniors going forward, knows he can buy beer, dating older chicks now, his older sister is a popular chick already and for some reason that really matters in high school and will end up being a beast pitcher at the school. He’s going to run that place in a few years

I agree with you. Wiley Wiggins was/is such a dork that it obscures what you’re saying but you’re on the money. On paper Mitch is set up to be a winner, he’s just played by a giant geek.

that was my favorite thing about his character, it really just sold how frickin' cool he was

Mitch's awkwardness (intentional or just poorly acted) actually really works for me. I was awkward as frick at age 13/14, especially around cool, older kids

Their whole group are the "kings" of the school. The other guys are pretty cool to Mitch as well.."are you gonna be fricking that later? Or you gonna be a lil wimp"?

I love when Benny tries to get up and realizes he's super hammered and has to sit right back down

I wished that shotgun was really loaded and the momma shot Ben Affleck just because I can’t stand him lol. If that scene happened today, would the momma get arrested for pointing a gun at a minor if he was trying to paddle her son?

O’Bannon was either 18 or 19 during the movie, so she wouldn’t be charged for that either.

I got to ask. Did any freshman really get paddled like that by seniors? Never heard of that. I got paddle like that in elementary school by the principal, though.

My dad was in high school at that time in the late 70s in Jackson, Mississippi. He said some people would do that to the weak kids no matter what class they were in. My dad always laughs at the scenes in the movie where they are chasing the kids with the paddles.

We’ve seen this movie many times, but last night I made a reference to Rip from Yellowstone and my wife was flabbergasted that it was the same actor.

I was a few year younger then this time period but brother was right in this time. I did some similar stuff. Great film.
My collage kid loves it, wishes they could do this kind of thing. They do fun stuff but just not the same.

In general, I hate goats but that 1970 Orbit Orange Judge may be the only Pontiac I have ever had a hard-on for. I remember seeing it in the opening scene and kinda missing the next couple of minutes thinking about it.

I know this is an unpopular opinion but anyone see issues with Wooderson hanging with high school kids and dating high school chicks years after he graduated?

The college aged guy hanging at high school parties was always kind of douchey to me when I was in high school

It may be douchey, but that will only be something the characters themselves figure out once they reach 20-21. The town may also only have a few places to hang out to cover the entire 18-24 crowd (with an 18+ drinking age and the town turning a blind eye to 16-17 year olds drinking).

I showed it to my Dad and he graduated around that time and he hated it.
He would be about the same age as me, possibly a year or two older. I loved the movie. Was spot on.
