I don’t think it beats around the bush that Mitch is a bit of a douche.

I thought Mitch did good playing his role except grabbing his nose all the time, but otherwise played the role well as a popular sister kid brother who had to go thru initiation but will one day be the prince

It seems like he was also doing it a lot while he was buying the beer, but I guess that's technically party of the same scene.

I didn't hate him in the role. But they really struggled to make him look like he'd ever even thrown a baseball, much less was an ace Pitcher.

It seems like they mentioned it in the making of doc on youtube.

I always took it as Mitch was the pitcher because he was supposed to be the best athlete and was going to be his class's Pink, the quarterback/ace athlete (with it being spring time, the ace pitcher) and most popular kid in school. He goes through the hazing and is already known by the upperclassmen by the time he gets to high school, has the cool big sister, is cool with Pink and the other seniors. He's already dating sophomores and in with the popular students. Him getting his arse busted and taking all the senior's bullshite is setting him up to be the king of the school in a few years. I imagine Pink went through the exact same thing three years earlier, with Wooderson busting Pink's arse when he was a freshman and Wooderson was a senior.

I think you have to look at it as Wooderson is to Pink as Pink is to Mitch. It's just to show that the tradition will live on with Mitch being the senior one day that is ushering in a new group of students.
