Wasn’t it to prevent Saw from going in as backup? He let Saww decide if 31 people were worth sacrificing for a much bigger picture.

I could see the ISB, Syril, Luthan with Saw coming in to save Andor.

Rogue One made it seem like Andor and Saw didn’t know each other. I can see everybody else showing up though.

For a little bit I thought Luthan was going to let Saw get ambushed, thus explaining how he got so beat up by the time we see him in Rogue One. But then he ended up saving him. I love how unpredictable this show is.

Also, my hope is somehow the mind of B the droid gets uploaded to K2 when we meet him

Why did the aliens take them off the prison planet? I missed that part.

The Empire, specifically their prison, was responsible for the water drying up on that planet. Those guys hated the Empire so they helped them escape.

Exactly!! Why do I have feelings for a droid that probably has about 15 minutes total screen time ?

The droid reminds us of our older animals, dogs or cats.

So, what was the reason for Luthen going back to Saw? Was it that he was feeling guilty and wanted someone else to share in his decision to sacrifice Kreegr and his men?

I assumed that Saw had signaled him. Luthen didn’t particularly look like he wanted to be there, seemed like it was an “OK, what did I drive all the way out here for?” kind of visit. Then Saw says I’m in, make it happen.. so Luthen has to make a split second decision on how to play it. But maybe I missed something.

Also, that short space fight was awesome.

Luthen’s ship has some tricks up its sleeve.

I thought the kinetic weapon/countermeasures to knock out the tractor beam array was a neat touch that, yet again, felt new to Star Wars. The way the dish shattered reminded me a lot of space warfare scenes in The Expanse.

I can’t help but wonder if that encounter is going to come back to bite Luthen in the arse. Not that he had much choice, though. Seems extremely unlikely that it will go unnoticed by the ISB given how everything has played out so far with this show. So the question will be: how much information does Deedra gain? I would think they’ll have his voice and a description of his ship at a minimum. Hopefully they didn’t intercept his conversation beforehand.

Not to concerned here as the Empire officer stated it was a known piracy area in space and would expect modifications to ships. Granted they were not expecting his but unless he was using some kind of stolen empire mods I doubt they link him to the rebellion.

He was willing to give air support on the other raid so maybe he shows up to do the same here without actually meeting. We did not see Luthan leave so he may get the message about Andor's mother funeral and make a plan knowing Andor shows up and knowing that the empire will be there as well setting up a trap.

This was certainly the most Star Wars-like episode so far. Sometimes when I watch this I forget that I’m watching Star Wars, but rather just a great show. So that felt strange. I loved Luthen’s encounter with the ship, however. I agree it felt a bit like a scene from the expanse, which is a good thing. I think it just released projectiles and let the tractor beam draw them in, which is a great idea for a countermeasure.

Luthen seems to be essentially the Rebellion’s answer to Palpatine. In public view but working behind the scenes, manipulating various people and factions towards his ends.

It was interesting to see Luthen have to convince Saw, who we know as a terrorist, not to intervene in that action for the larger purpose of fighting the empire. Luthen sees how ruthless Saw could be and is pushing him in that direction because it serves his purpose. He is very good at “using the tools of his enemy”.

Luthen brings to light what was presented in SW Rebels. That show focused on one rebel cell but by the end they were trying to connect all the cells to unite as one. This show is also exploring the different rebel factions like Saw, Kreegyr, and Mon Mothma while he is trying to unite them.

Theories are floating around after the last episode that Luthen is a former Jedi of sort. Based on all the Jedi and Sith artifacts in his shop including items from Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and Tales of the Jedi along with a reference he makes to Knights Of The Old Republic games.

Also they believe the item he had when searched is the hilt of a light saber and the crystal he gave Andor is a light saber crystal.

The main theory is a gray Jedi. So who knows but got to love the internet and the theories that follow.

Saw : For the greater good
Luthen: Call it what you will
Saw: Lets call it…..war

Another great exchange

Star Wars has been firing on all cylinders lately. Obi-Wan finale, Tales of the Jedi, and Andor. Really hope they're catching their stride.

I thought the show explicitly called it a Kyber crystal.

I like this theory a lot. It makes his epic speech that more impactful, because he didn’t just give away his personal moral code but his lifelong Jedi code. Using the tools of my enemy would not refer to the empire in general so much as it would refer specifically to the Sith.

They did and the crystal had no color until it picked a Jedi. Jedi younglings were sent to Ilum to search Crystal Cave for their crystal. Once the Jedi received the crystal from the cave it would turn blue or green. He had a blue crystal.

Fun fact. Ilum was turned into Starkiller Base.

I hope they DON'T go this way.

I like the fact that it's just 'normal' people, up against a totalitarian beaucracy. Criminals, who are naturally averse to authority and under the radar, coming to terms that they are the resistance.

Andor is an amoral thief, out for what's his, resentful of those who put him in this situation. And now realizing "everyone' is in his situation, he's becoming a leader because he's accustomed to doing what he needs to do.

Luthen strikes me as a slick profiteer who's always survived just outside the law, using his perception to read the landscape and turn a tidy profit. And he's figured out what really is going on with the Empire as the Republic morphed into it, and understands where it is heading- and that it will mean an end not only to his own lifestyle, but any personal freedoms. Not a lot different than the dude who wants to marry his son to Mon Motha's daughter, less visible, but as pragmatic (that guy might still be playing the game inside the Empire's rules, but he's also likely going to have tendencies to want a free and open society where he can continue to prosper).

I would have no issue with Luthen actually being a gray Jedi. On screen the Jedi have been revered as peace keepers but yet arrogant. The gray Jedi disagree with their vision and beliefs but do not get swayed by the dark side. Showing they can have balance without some strict code that refuses personal attachments and relationships. It would bring in a different version of the Jedi that would bring into question some of the same things Anakin and even Ashoka began to question.

Man, when you add everything up that makes a ton of sense. His apparent lack of fear, the crystal, all of his artifacts, his skill as a pilot (the one thing from this week’s episode that felt a little out of place to me was how easily he dealt with the TIE fighters), hell.. the fact that he’s even made it this far.

It would definitely seem odd if “the item” from when he got searched just turned out to be some inconsequential, mundane piece of gear. Immediately I was like “what the hell is that? A spyglass?” But then I forgot about it because of the next scene with Saw. Another example of outstanding writing/direction.

I’ll say this, though: If he is a Jedi, that doesn’t seem to bode very well for his fate. Hard to imagine that a Jedi with his level of influence on the rebellion wouldn’t go on to be a key figure in the subsequent chapters of the SW story. Granted the writers can do whatever they want but I don’t see them overlooking those kinds of details.

Was the prison on that same beach planet?

The aliens gave him a ride back to the resort town where he was arrested to get his case. I was a little confused though because they made it look like his case was just sitting on a table for all of that time with other guests in the room. Maybe I missed him retrieving it from a hiding spot in the ceiling or something.
