Caught this one just as I finished the book Empire of the Summer Moon, the well researched book about the Comanches. Very similar story lines when it came to almost documenting - like history of the Indians & the West, the U.S. Calvery as well. It was a rough & brutal world back then, nothing like the typical Hollywood cowboys & injuns movies back then. The "towns" were dark & grimy, sloppy mud streets. The frontier was not a clean, friendly part of America populated by your All American men & women.

Would watch a season 2.
I'd have no interest in a season 2, unless it's a whole new cast of characters other than the main Mormons.
Ending felt a lot like season 1 of Westworld where show could go full blown girl power.

If they do a season 2, it'll be an Isaac focused prequel series.
At least that's what they're saying.

Revenant vibes.
Pretty sure the settlement they get held captive in (after being lured into a trap by the little kid with the doll) looks just like a scene from Revenant

The Mountain Meadows Massacre was actually much more horrible than portrayed on the show. The battle/siege went on for days. The Mormons finally convinced the remaining settlers to turn over their arms in exchange for being escorted safely from the area. Then the Mormons murdered over 100 settlers, leaving only 17 children age 6 and under, with the thought that they wouldn’t remember and be able to rat out the Mormons as the killers. The kids were taken in by locals. One girl, about 10, was killed in front of the other kids after the Mormons decided she might be old enough to relate what had happened.
I nominate Shea Whigham for an Emmy.

I just binged the whole thing this afternoon. I loved it but it doesn’t need a second season. The story has been told.

For the sparse population and massive massive amount of wild mountain country where all this took place, these people sure do run into a LOT of people every few minutes in the middle of nowhere.

I'm in no way advocating for the Mormons. I don't agree with their religion or anything they stand for. But.............
They left Missouri and Illinois bc people didn't understand them and their ways. So they went way out west to the big basin (Utah now) that was part of Mexican territory. Living their life and doin their thing away from everyone until the US and pioneers started settling the area. I'm not condoning their actions but can almost understand it.
Bonus for anyone who likes firearms. Jonathan Browning, father of John Moses Browning, supposedly made the trek from Illinois to Ogden with Brigham Young and was a prominent figure in the church.
Edited to add--- Oh, and I really liked this series. Yeah it had some stuff we can all complain about but when compared to the garbage from the last 10 years I thought it was really good!!!

I find it funny they made bridger out to be a great guy. He was one of biggest pieces of crap around. First the Hugh Glass debacle and then he Pushed the donner party to their demise on hastings cutoff.

That would make sense.
I was probably a little harsh in my other post. I just wouldn't be interested in a season 2 that follows Sara Rowell and her kid to California.
An Isaac-focused prequel could be interesting, though.

Taylor Kitsch better be in it.

Completely agree

It would suffer from the same thing that most prequels suffer, we know Isaac's fate and the fate of his family. That ruins all the tension and drama when you know the ending.
The Old West has a bunch of stories they could delve into. I'd suggest they go in a different direction if there is going to be a Part 2.

I'd rather them just let a good thing be. Not every story needs to keep going. Felt the same way about Shogun, but they are going to keep going with that without more source material to go off so it'll probably suffer.

I’m on episode 5. The abbish girl is kind of a count

I liked it a lot. One of the best western shows I've seen in a while. There's some really bad writing in spots.. especially with her trying to save the french girl, but any show that makes me do a little research after I've finished it ranks higher to me for some reason.

The writing is definitely inconsistent. That story was based on something similar I read in Frontier Times or one of those similar magazines, which was based on real eye witness accounts. Supposedly.
What I read was much worse & brutal than what they portrayed.

After watching the show, I won't mind scalping some of those Mormon bastards
