So I loved the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, tolerated the Hobbit movies and loved the books. I just haven’t gotten around to the Amazon series. Without spoilers, is this worth the watch? This is basically origin/prequel stuff right?

I suspect that if you don't mind weak writing (and dialogue) and have no real connection to the lore, that you could enjoy it.

I don't really care about the lore, but I absolutely hate bad writing. I couldn't motivate myself finish the season.

Go in with low expectations. It kept my interest a bit. Nothing crazy good

Act like it doesn't exist and you'll be a lot better off.

I’m not a huge LOTR fan, but have seen everything to include the Hobbit.

I made it through. It wasn’t great, but not dog shite. I didn’t read the books so I’m not educated enough to know if it bastardized the books or not. It was good enough, but nothing I would watch again.

if you really 'loved' the film trilogy and the books then you will hate it. i have yet to meet any book fan that likes it.

The less of a fan of the original material you are the more likely you are to think it is okay.

The effects were good but holy hell the acting and writing were bad.

I made it 6 episodes. Even if I knew nothing of the books, I'd hate it just because it's objectively awful. It feels like it was written by a 12 year old girl (which in a way, it was) and the central actress could not have gotten the role more wrong. The plot and story elements are comically absurd and the characters are mostly unlikeable, with a couple of exceptions, ironically including the black dwarf woman.

Less than 37% of viewers finished watching the entire season.

What does this tell you?
