No, because similar to this move, everything I saw for What is a Woman? looked like he found the most hilarious people and put a camera in their face and let them bury themselves.

It look so manipulative where I can't tell if he finds the far left and tries to display them as the normal left or if he edited it to only shows him getting them with his "gotcha" moments.

Which is what Borat did. He found people who look like they walked out of the stereotypes store and shoved a microphone in their face and let them make asses of themselves. It seems fake but that's where the comedy comes from, that these people are basically caricatures. I can be down for that and far leaning political people are prime to be mocked.

No, it's pretty close to being as accurate as a generalized meme can be. The first part of your next sentence underscores it:

quote:

Well, what’s happened is while the leftist have remained radical and moved further left, the new “right” is the populist outrage-based Limbaugh cum MAGA movement

The center of the Left continues to move further and further into fringe territory, so much so that you have liberals talking head (like Maher and Dore) who are considered right-leaning by those in the middle of the Left as well as liberal politicians (both current and former) whose stances just a decade or two ago would have lost them their party's consideration today (for example: Bill Clinton's stance on illegal immigration). Your stance seems to be that during this the Right has moved further into the Right and your support for that seems to be "outrage".

That's a poor take. It's no different than slapping someone until they slap you back, then calling them "violent". The Left has moved so far into their fringe that they not only attempt to redefine words in order to create some sort of rhetorical platform, they then demand everyone agree with them on the new definition and then attack those who don't. When those who are attacked fight back, the Left claims that it's just "outrage".

Never saw it. I might watch it tonight to better understand what you're talking about though. Because without that framework, this:

“we’re not gonna protest”

quote:

Frankly, I miss “we’re not gonna protest”.

Sounds a lot like "just shut up and take it."

My thing is that one fine with politics on the board. But if you’re going to applaud, denigrate, post videos about a show or movie, keep it to a single thread.

Acolyte should have a single thread. Not one announcing it, one with a trailer, one per episode, one about nedrotci/critical drinker opinions all getting a separate thread.

I would be ok with like a regular thread and an anti woke thread. There may be people here who actually watch things and want to discuss them without having to be inundated with "woke, dei, whatever" stuff in every other post. I quit The Acolyte after 3 episodes, not for any particular political reason but I just kinda got bored with it, but if I was into it or others were we should have threads where they can just talk about the show.

It’s an underrated classic IMO and well worth a watch.

What’s changed in the 30 years since that movie came out is that, and my point is, while they may try to liken themselves to the members of “the pit” …the fact is the MAGA meme-fueled outrage culture today is every bit as militant as the “womynist”, “afrocentrists” or other radicals portrayed in the movie. It doesn’t matter what the actual ethos is - it’s how they act.

I don't watch the national media news anymore because I assume everyone has an agenda to push over telling the truth. I'll keep to local media when I need news.

Though honestly I just rarely watch news at all.

And funny enough while watching Florida/A&M a commercial for Am I Racist came on and they repeatedly referenced it as being funny.

This is really my thing for this board. I know how I come across at times, but the whole idea of 1) ignore initial topic and/or 2) don’t visit threads that should be on topic and get slammed with that same shite is mind numbing.

And I’m cool with Godfather as admin saying he would allow that other topic to exist. It’s just isolate the mess IMO. Some people actually watch TV and Movies. And I know you do TS.

In the theater right now… and I just couldn’t get over the fat guy in the biker bar’s t shirt.. first alcohol, then relatives.

What in the hell does that mean? Beyond banging your relative?

The t shirt blew my mind lmao

Matt Walsh is such an insufferable douchebag. Easily the worst contributor to the Daily Wire. I honestly think he's LARPing at this point. He's as vacuous and fake as Candace Owens.

No, it's a reference to the "causeheads" in the film. They spend their entire time in college protesting one thing or another instead of enjoying themselves. They switch causes every other day and exist in a state of perpetual outrage. So, they protest against protesting...

I appreciated this review because it did a good job of explaining what I was looking for with this movie. I am more inclined to check it out now.

Just saw it and it was legit funny. However the scene at the end with the uncle and everybody piling on was kind of chilling.

Jeremy Jahns had the temerity to review it (good time, no alcohol required [IYKYK]) and the usual suspects are losing their shite and trying to cancel him.

Saw the movie last night. There’s a lot of Borat style humor. Best way to sum is up is Borat for conservatives.

The message does not demonstrate the theater support of the left who want to shut it down. It basically states twice due to the extreme behavior of those (in this case left) who have shown discourse towards our theater we are removing the movie from our lineup because we fear violent aggression and/or acts of violence will happen to our employees.

Got to love one group preaches DEI and equality but only through fear.
