Just don't watch people that over hype the content with dumb thumbnails.
There are millions of good videos. Youtube is no different than the rest of the internet. Tons of crap and your job is to weed through it.
You could watch historical documentaries everyday for the rest of your life and not get through 1% of what is available on youtube.
Same can be said for instructive videos. Real product reviews. Really anything you could possibly want.
Hell, it is great for game replays and or clips without having to give ESPN a dime. Anytime I want to watch Tracy Porter taking it to the house, it will always be there on youtube. Just watched it. See you later Peyton.

I subscribe to a good number of channels so that may help some. Stuff that interests me, across the board. Then I only turn on notifications for a few of my favorites, or those I know put out stuff infrequently. Because those are ones I am likely to forget about after a while.

I follow certain channels and also upload videos myself. Tend to stay away from the feed.

I like YouTube. There are tons of entertaining police bodycam videos, dui arrests, domestic disputes, criminals, car chases, drug arrests, etc.
Travel videos, political street interviews, classic boxing matches, hot girls walking around London or Russia or wherever, a woman showing daily life in Siberia, comedy.....and a thousand more videos.

I'm looking for a legit ghost story site on YouTube and can't find anything that's not cheesy.

Do you mean like stories people are telling from personal experience or made up stories (which are probably like 99% of the space)?
If you want something along those lines that's more effective, watch videos of scary camping encounters.

A podcaster mentioned that the best monetization from YouTube is for videos over 10min. Creators are sandbagging vids to increase profits

I steer clear of those random doc vids with AI voices and editing. I've pointed out multiple mistakes, big ones, and moved on. Give it a downvote and clear from your viewing history.
They'll never do it, but I wish there was an AI filter you could place on videos suggested for you.

Whether it’s ancient history, home fix it, astronomy, or movie reviews, you just have to find somebody who makes good points and that you find interesting enough to keep watching. I follow one channel and made a casual disagreement with their video and oh boy, they jumped on me.
I wasn’t flaming them or calling them worst person in the world, I just said that their entire video was pointless because of reasons they openly admitted. “So why make the video ?” Was generally my point.

I like some of the channels that feature music. And tv episodes I may have missed…

I get a majority of my news on here. The subscription element is the way to go

Its the AI slop and the constant, intrusive commercials killing it for me.

My algorithm is mostly history, cooking, beer, or mountain climbing videos.
The headlines are over sensational and mostly bullshite. And the interesting ones end up being AI narrated and generated that i quit watching immediately.

For several years, I’ve watched more YouTube than any other programming, to the point that I bought premium to avoid the commercials. Use it for everything from “how to” to reviews and general information like “Geography with Geoff” and The Why Files.
AI is killing the experience. Some of it is cute, like the Bigfoot stuff. But it has invaded the space so completely that if you search “review (product)” 90 % will be AI generated and have zero real world information. And that’s a bummer, because I enjoy browsing various topics.

I think my favorite is how there are ads every 5 minutes or so.
Really adds to the overall flow of what you watch.
