I don't really understand why they split it up the episodes like they did. It doesn't play well at all. I may stop watching week by week and just binge it at the end.

It'd be different if he was going town by town or something where there's a clean break, but it seems like the whole "season" is just going to be this one tournament.

It is, but a lot of very consequential things will happen. Next season will be at one location as well, and the third season will be at another tournament.

These are novellas. I guess their choices were to do it this way or release a full movie for each book, and they can make more money this way.

I think they chose the better option. The show has been gradually gaining steam and a single movie might have flown under the radar too much.

Negative. He's wielding a generic shield with no sigil.

Not trying to gripe about the show itself, but how long are they expected to wait between releasing each new season? If it’s every two years when there’s only 6 episodes under 40 minutes a piece spread out over 6 weeks at a time then that is some straight up bullshite.

Next season has been announced for next year.

I wouldn't start worrying until we get to season 3 and there's still no new novella.

apparently its one of the reasons they are short, so they can have shorter time between seasons. They are filming season two right now.

I feel much better about tv writers working within the limited scope of what this show is as opposed to Game of Thrones. As long as they stay true to that vision, it's hard to go too far off the rails.

Seems like HBO is definitely slow playing this show to give GRRM more time to write though.

For all the filler bs they put in shows like The Last of Us and other adaptations, they couldn’t add 20 more minutes to each episode to give us more of this universe? Absolute trash.

So they're damned if they do, damned if they don't. They don't try to stay close to the source material and people are going to be upset.

You are mad because they are not putting more "filler bs" into the show?

...what?

Yeah this isn’t Game of Thrones where there is a ton of source material. These are short books. Add some more of the day to day. I see nothing wrong in my gripe. But continue to defend a show that has a 33 min run time for 6 episodes a season.

Wish I had a good enough memory to place all of the names they mentioned.

I kind of remember the Targaryen names the brought up but, I don't know how they all all fit in the history of House Targaryen.

I basically have a snow day so I'll divulge (avoiding book spoilers) and try to include some visual aids:

This occurs 100 years before Game of Thrones.

This also occurs a couple generations AFTER House of Dragon. They are direct descendants (think Great-Great Grandchildren) from Targaryens from that show (again, don't want to spoil anything there because we still don't "know" who survives the war on the HoD show).

All that said, here's who is mentioned/seen:

House Targaryen

Prince Baelor "Breakspear" Targaryen

- Oldest son of current Westeros ruler: King Daeron II Targaryen
- Hand of the King (he's wearing the pin)
- Has two sons named Valarr and Matarys
- Gave Dunk his nod to be able to participate in the Tournament at Ashford.

Prince Valarr Targaryen

- Son of Baelor
- We catch him briefly at the jousting event and he's mentioned as a favorite to win the tourney.

Prince Maekar Targaryen

- Baelor's younger brother
- Maekar has a metric frickton of kids. Three have been mentioned so far on the show: Aegon, Daeron, and Aerion.
- It is mentioned before Dunk is discovered ease-dropping that Daeron and Aegon are currently "missing".
- One of his sons not mentioned, Aemon, will go on to be the old Maester of Castle Black that we meet in GoT (I feel safe in posting that much).

Prince Aerion “Brightflame” Targaryen

- Son of Maekar
- Twat
- What happens to him is spoiled by Joffrey in Game of Thrones in the same scenes that he spoils House of the Dragon, so tread lightly if you're doing a rewatch.

Kingsguard we've seen so far that rode in with the Targaryens:

Left: Ser Roland Crakehall

- Comes from a noble house prominent in this period of Westeros: House Crakehall
- Walder Frey (Game of Thrones) married a Crakehall for his 3rd wife

Right: Ser Donnel of Duskendale

- Was not a nobleman of House Darklyn (who ruled Duskendale)
- Noted he came from a family of crabbers, but later mentioned they were quite wealthy crabbers.

Thanks. So many of the Targaryen names sound so much alike, I have a hard time remembering who is who. Seems like a lot are mentioned at one time or another during GOT.
