after 2 episodes, i'm confident that this is the best show/series/mini-series that has come out in a long time.

absolutely fantastic first 2 episodes.

now i want a fukushima series by these guys, albeit it may not be as dramatic.

It's going to be funny when the internet hates the ending of Chernobyl when it doesn't kill everyone at the end.

Liked that the party official who had a crash course in fission shut down the two local plant officials who were condescending the scientist.

I was surprised to see the scientist pushing the 400 rubles for the volunteers. I didn’t think he’d try to sell that. Seemed contrary to what he was doing the whole episode.

So far, the big Communist officials have given great speeches. They really were quite good and I especially liked “because it has to be done” in episode two.

General making the run. That’s a leader.

Now I didn’t know about the possibility of that massive steam detonation. That was news to me.

Very pleased with this show!

Once Professor Moriarty told the couple in the bar that everything was ok he sold his soul and felt the need to go all in.

In reality, the volunteers knew it was a suicide mission and were told their families would be taken care of. They ended up living for years even though for a while the story was sensationalized that they had died soon after.

That’s awesome. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to wiki/google during episodes to see who was who. Lots of the names sound the same to me.

Poor Victor. Scalded by steam, certainly had ARS and lived for a miserable 23 days, longer than many others.

What hell that must have been.

FYI there’s a podcast they are doing with the writer. He’s explaining areas where he had to take creative license with the material, like combining many characters into the female scientist.

One problem they had was looking at some of the scenes they were concerned that the subject would seem unbelievable and over dramatic. The issue was, this stuff was all true.

THIS LINK is to a YouTube video where the firefighter’s equipment in the hospital basement were checked for radiation. After 29 years some of them registered over 800 rads on the dosimeter.

was one of the ‘youngest’ cities in the Soviet Union, with an average age of only 26. Convincing experienced workers from more populous parts of the Soviet Union to move to such a remote location proved challenging, so many of Chernobyl’s workers came straight from college/university.

Viktor/Nikolai/Valery/Aleksandr are pretty spot on.

Also, Viktor's voice is painful.

Amazing how those 3 guys made it out alive but most of the rest died of ARS.

Nevermind how unhealthy it would be, I played too much S.T.A.L.K.E.R. to consider stepping one foot down there. Crazy fool.
