This board is going to hate this movie

That ending was beyond bizarre though

I’ll be interested to see the audience score. I think it’s going to be pretty low

I think it's one of those movies that everybody would either love or hate, with little in between.

Really, I think that most people (including me) would hate the movie

quote:

Man, I am pretty mixed. A lot of this movie I didn’t like. And then some of it was good. But that ending was a big frick you to the audience.

quote:

This movie was horrible

Almost zero redeeming qualities aside from the Fiennes character

Do yourself a favor and skip it

quote:

I didn’t think it was horrible but it didn’t go in the direction I assumed judging by the trailer. It felt like they had a ton of material to work with and didn’t really get to the meat of anything. In fact it felt like a bunch of well filmed but completely random scenes tied together

The ending was incredibly strange.

Initially walking out I was satisfied but after reflecting on it I’m a little disappointed.

i don’t know what i watched either. tbh i thought it sucked.

Early audience score down to 68%

Well shite.

I was anticipating this film so much but I don't think I'm going to waste money to see it in theaters. I may wait for more reviews to come out though or just go see it during a weekday

Enjoyed it, but way different than expected and can see why some aren’t going to like it. The cinematography was excellent.

Let’s Talk About The End of 28 Years Later

I’d say we missed this because America, but it still seems like a wild concept.

Like I said earlier-my hope is that the second addition ties it all together because there's much left on the table in the movie. this article makes me feel way better about the promise of the second movie.

Critical Drinker says very flawed but good. No spoilers.

Seems like he wanted to like it but doesn't really.

I just got out and I’m surprised by so many negative reviews. I thought it was excellent. Miles ahead of 28 Weeks which I watched for the first time last night. Great performances, effects, camerawork, and an unpredictable plot. I don’t know what it was missing to garner the hatred it’s receiving.

Yeah the people in the thread writing it off because a few said “don’t bother” definitely shouldn’t let it scare them off from going to the theatre and seeing for it for themselves. I think some may be pleasantly surprised. If anything the cinematography is great

I just watched it. I thought it was a solid film, well-made, well-acted. I don't understand that final scene. That was so jarring lol. It felt like a comedy skit. Such an odd choice.

Funny, I always think island

the UK is an island
which proves his point. After watching the movie even after 28 years the infected have been contained to the British mainland. The surviving community is even an island just a low tide walk away from the mainland. An island escape is the best way to avoid the zombie apocalypse.

One of the holes in the story is that all of these people are choosing to survive in the quarantined UK. Why after 28 years have they not built a boat or vessel to transport themselves away from the diseased island? Seems silly way to choose to live.

A lot of crapping on the ending everywhere but I thought the last minute was one of the redeeming qualities

I have zero idea how people could not take away from that ending that it was setting up future sequels, but apparently that is a thing and explains why there are at least some people that are really annoyed by it thinking that was the finale of the franchise. I did not know this was the first of a trilogy but that was obvious to me after the ending. At least I came away with the thought that the next one will be better. Interested to see the Jimmy cults storyline because this movies storyline was all over the place. May be overly optimistic from my standpoint though.

From the article you linked:
quote:

It’s a daring final note for many reasons: narratively unexpected, tonally bizarre, and delivering a cliffhanger ending for a film that many audiences won’t realise is the first part of a new trilogy – but mostly for the clear allusions it makes to a monstrous figure in British history.

The UK is actively quarantined. They will shoot any person trying to escape. That’s why Erik and his team were there. They were patrolling and their ship ran aground so they were forced to swim to shore.

Going into it expecting an amazing zombie movie sequel to 28 weeks later with Garland at the helm this was very very underwhelming. It’s a family drama with zombies in the background. The first ten minutes sets it up to be what everyone was expecting then there’s a shift. Zombies are very dangerous. Have to be tactical in your traveling. The boy can barely fire straight. 24 hours later he’s taking his ill mom on a grand journey.

It’s a solid cheesy zombie movie all things considered. Don’t expect anything above that imo
