Margot Robbie missing a nomination is a pretty big deal.

Yeah, not sure how Barbie is even eligible for adapted. How can you adapt a script from a toy?

KotFM was a good movie, but not a great adaption of a great book.

Not trying to be "that guy," but I've literally never heard of this one.

Based on the 2001 novel Erasure by Percival Everett, the film follows a frustrated novelist-professor who writes an outlandishly stereotypical "black" book as satire, only for the book to be published to high sales and praise.

Seems to have a 93% RT critical consensus and a 96% audience score.

Kind of sounds like Spike Lee’s Bamboozled based on the description.

Agreed

For a three hour movie, they missed some major points from the book.

Hmm, looks like you nailed it.

The story’s central issue was a hot topic in 2001, following the commercial success of “street” books like Sapphire’s 1996 Push — adapted into the 2009 film Precious — and Sister Souljah’s hit The Coldest Winter Ever.

Erasure came out within months of Spike Lee’s film Bamboozled, which told a similar story with TV as its subject: A frustrated producer creates a show of literal blackface minstrelsy, and the network and audience devour it without irony.

The film flopped at the box office, but looms over this one.

Oppenheimer is definitely poised in so many categories to get a huge cache of hardware.

Might have only been advertised in theaters. I liked it. It may not have a wide audience because people won't know what they are supposed to think about it.

Jeffrey Wright was very good in it. He's pretty reliable.

The satire hits very hard at the bigotry of low expectations of wealthy liberal whites and the opportunism of some blacks making material to take advantage of that market. It was written in 2001 but is more relevant today post Ibram X. Kendi.

it was lightly advertised. it's a reverse "sorry for bothering you" without the weirdness.

would recommend.

It's pretty funny that Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie didn't get Oscar nominations but Ryan Gosling did.

I'm as big an Oppenheimer fan as there is on this board, and I think the movie should win Best Picture in addition to a bunch of other awards.

That being said, a nomination for Costume Design? Aren't they mostly just wearing normal clothes?
