Godzilla Minus One not getting a Best Picture nomination is a crime

It's a popcorn flick. I loved it, but it was never going to be nominated for Best Picture.

I think the arguments can be made for most of the nominees to win for Visual Effects. Minus One getting the nomination is an achievement when compared to the effects budgets of the other nominees, and I see that working in its favor.

This would have been a great year to add the stunts category. MI7 vs JW4 is a good contest.

Disagree strongly

The perception might be that because of the title and assumption that this is similar to the other recent monster movies.

This is not a monster movie. This is a reflection on Japanese culture featuring a love story.

Yeah, not sure how Barbie is even eligible for adapted. How can you adapt a script from a toy?

Pretty sure I read that they wanted to submit it for original screenplay but the Academy told them no.

You are correct. Warner Bros. originally submitted it for Original Screenplay but AMPAS told them to move it to Adapted. It's dumb but here we are.

That being said, a nomination for Costume Design? Aren't they mostly just wearing normal clothes?

Era-appropriate normal clothes. Can't buy that stuff off the rack in 2022.

I literally groaned when I saw Ferrera’s name. Her character was insufferable. Terrible nomination. Thank God she has 0 chance of winning.

She was cute in Ugly Betty, but she’s turned into such a propagandist for the DNC.

Well that’s another example of their dumb rules regarding original vs adapted.

Whiplash had to be considered adapted, because of the proof of concept short film. So stupid

The King’s Speech won Original Screenplay despite being adapted from an unproduced play. Because the play version was never staged, the Academy ruled the screenplay as an original work. Go figure.

Greta got a screenwriter nomination. She will be fine.

I said there were no surprises for me, but looking again I realized that the Michael J Fox documentary Still was snubbed.

They've done this in the past with comic book movies (Joker, Logan) and sequels (ie Glass Onion last year) - it is what it is

How the frick is Godzilla Minus One not a nominee in the international feature category?

It's a great movie that just so happens to be a Godzilla movie.

Oscars hate sci fi and horror.

Japan chose another movie as their selection for the Oscars and it was nominated.

Apparently the French selection was something other than Anatomy of a Fall (which was nominated for Best Picture). So those can’t be included as snubs since the voters didn’t even have the choice to pick those films for the respective categories.

Japan didn’t submit the film for consideration. It’s a requirement for them to do so if they want it to have a chance of getting nominated.

The Taste of Things
quote:

Cook Eugenie and her boss Dodin grow fond of one another over 20 years, and their romance gives rise to dishes that impress even the world's most illustrious chefs. When Dodin is faced with Eugenie's reluctance to commit, he begins to cook for her.

I saw the trailer for it before The Zone of Interest and it looked quite dull. Like a standard romance, but in French. I enjoyed Anatomy so I can only imagine that had hoped to shine the light on two French films or they were offended that half of Anatomy was in English.
