I liked fellowship but got kinda bored in the last two movies.
Really? The only time I even felt slightly bored was when I watched the three extended versions back-to-back and the part where they form the Fellowship seemed to drag. When I saw it in theaters, or the first time I watched it on dvd, I thought they were fantastic throughout. I can't imagine being bored in TT or ROTK

this thread is blasphemous shite.

To be fair to the thread, Rounders is an awesome movie.
But LotR is the greatest movie trilogy of all time. And I say that with zero bias, and not in the typical movie board hyperbolic way. It really is great from start to finish. Sure, some of it (especially the extended versions) drags on (like the end of RotK), but that doesn't make the rest of it suck. It's a great experience to sit down and watch all three back to back to back. Amazing story/movie(s).

The only trilogy that can really compare may be the Toy Story trilogy, since it also was a constantly great trilogy, each film is better than 95% of every film ever made, each film is in the debate as being greater than the other, and they greatly changed the film making business. The other truly great trilogies fall flat on their face in the third installment.

I am not a big fantasy movie guy but I really enjoyed watching these movies.
Sean Austin's character is my favorite. His loyalty and purity make him very likable. If he played football, he'd be an offensive lineman, Blind Side style. The way the ending of ROTK works out for him is the most touching part of the three films to me.
The hobbits are interesting but the human's struggles throughout all three films made the movies seem possible. They made the movies seem like historical tales from a very different era.
I aliked the 1st and last movies best. I enjoyed it but I may not have given the second one a fair chance knowing the third was already out there.
I doubt many of you real experts care about my impressions. Hopefully someone who doesn't think they'll like the films might give them a chance knowing someone like me, who doesn't usually like fantasy movies, really enjoyed these.

Actually, it's the thoughts of people like you that matter the most to the fantasy/sci-fi genre and its fans.
The genre can only expand and improve if it can win the approval of non-traditional fans and non-fanboys.

And I thought the second one was the best. The battle of Helm's Deep is just incredible.

Well my movies tastes go beyond bland, formulaic plots and gimmicky themes

The problem with some people is they want quick, in your face, all laid out on a purple pillow for you type story line. If it doesn't happen in 90 minutes, forget it. If you can't predict what's going to happen 30 minutes into the film, it's complete garbage. They don't have time to let the story develop, nor are they interested in seeing the plot develop.
And those types of people generally tend to dislike the LOTR trilogy.

agreed, you can't give up on FOTR before they even form the Fellowship!
