Im sorry but it annoys me to see people wondering why this kid went to AU...it makes perfect sense to me.

Yeah same

first..to label an opinion logical or illogical is void as it's just another opinion...

Not when there isn't any fact to back up the opinion. Whereas there is fact to back up mine.

.practice and experience does not always yield improvement.

True but that isn't that often when you have quality coaching.

are you a UGA student?

Nope. UWG.

Unless you really think Ryan Aplin proves anything?

Some but how about his offenses at Tulsa. They threw the hell out of the ball.

otherwise...it smells a little like Vol in here...

No. Auburn is simply the hot team with kids right now.

I don't think Marshall will actually be any better as a passer,

You realize that's a completely illogical opinion right?
quote:

It is a waste of his talent unless Craig's greatest asset is his blocking downfield.

Right but what you're not understanding is they will throw more after Marshall leaves.
quote:

Not likely with losing their best OL and biggest running threat. It doesn't matter what Marshall does, he'll never be a great passing QB. Better than last year? Maybe, but it isn't like there is a lot of room to improve before he hits his proverbial ceiling as a passer. If he wasn't already there...

So because they lost their best OL and best RB they won't have more success throwing? That's doesn't make much sense.

I didn't say Marshall would be all world. You're right he isn't ever going to be great but better than last year is very possible.

what is the draw for a big time WR recruit to play for auburn

Quick playing time

An elite OC/HC

The SEC

quote:

.but that wasn't the target of discussion in the auburn recruit thread

Yeah it kind of was. Maybe not directly, but you and several others had a hard time understanding why a top WR would go there.

quote:

imho they will not buy more production becoming more balanced because there is not much room for improvement.

That's assuming Defenses don't do a better job VS that running game this year, a near impossibility. Combine that with them losing one of the most dominant OL we've seen in the SEC (Cam Robinson) and the loss of their key RB (Tre Mason) and their key FB (Jay Prosch- for which they have no replacement) and you'll see that it is impossible for that running game to be as good as it was.

quote:

We've always spread the ball around but Murray made it an art form, routinely completing passes to 7-9 recievers a game.

Yeah it's not bad at all and I'm glad we have enough talent for it to work.
quote:

Might not sign the biggest named WRs, but they've produced, for the most part.

Good point. While we haven't had an ALL-SEC type WR since AJ Green, the WR's combined have all played well. It's been very deep.
quote:

.Auburn just pulled in a huge 5 star WR for 2016...consider Gus's offensive scheme in 2013..for me it is surprising..I understand Gus has a history of putting up passing yards.., I assume he is transitioning to a more balanced attack..although, I doubt it is that much more balanced..why change it if it works well..

THey will have more success throwing with a more comfortable QB and a better WR Corp.

quote:

If you've done any research on Malzahn as an OC, you'd find that he doesn't have an offense. He tailors it to whatever his QB does best.

That's kind of an ignorant post. Of course he has an offense. I think perhaps what you should have said is he tailors the offense to the talent he has. He focuses on different elements in his offense different years.
quote:

As a UGA fan, I remember the 2011 offense.

It was better than the 2012 version.

That 2012 Off led by Scot Loeffler was one of the worst, most boring offenses I've ever seen. It was abysmal. How he got the VT OC job I'll never know.
quote:

how much utilization for WR's is there in Gus's system...I'm probably wrong but I don't remember a lot of passes in our game last year...of course I remember the last one but...what's the pitch to a big time WR like this in Auburn's offensive system...who probably wants quality "show" time...

Had there been better talent at WR and had a better passer they would have thrown more. Look for them to throw more in 14 with a more comfortable QB and an upgraded WR core.
Congrats Auburn fans. That's huge news.

Oh ok you were combining the two. I was confused thinking you thought power dive was an actual thing. In the context you presented it in now makes sense.
quote:

Yea but if you cant stop the power dive then you cant stop the offense. The point is not to just stop it but with minimal help from Linebackers and extra safety. That way those guys can still account for the speed runs off the edges. That's all I meant by that. Its a fundamental of the type of offense.

Wth is the power dive? Haha the whole point of the 3.4 is for the LB core to make the plays.

LarrytheGolfer Just re-watched the Iron Bowl... Auburn has to be the SEC Favorite Auburn was so lucky last year. They will lose at least 3 games this year.

Luck doesn't exist in sports. explain how/why they'd lose 3 games. I don't see it.
quote:

beaver Just re-watched the Iron Bowl... Auburn has to be the SEC Favorite It does now but by the time of the Iron Bowl, you will have to defend the deep ball as well The O won't be as one dimensional this season

Good point. With Coates and DW big things should be expected. Keeping Uzumoh at TE will help as well.
quote:

Well better NG play from us having more depth and experience there and bigger Middle backers could actually help to negate this dive play that is the key stone in this offense. Everything runs off the dive/power run.

Bigger ILB are not going to chAnge Anything. They need to get off blocks better.
