More pro bowl appearances than accepted holding calls against.

It is amazing that Stephen had to stop Jerry from drafting Johnny Manziel over Zach Martin at that draft. I hate the Cowboys but he was an amazing Offensive Lineman & a great guy.

That’s one of my favorite draft stories of all time. Jerry couldn’t believe Manziel had dropped that far, and immediately picked up the phone to call in the pick. His son had to physically wrestle the phone out of Jerry’s hand, then they got into a cussing match with each other before Jerry deferred to the coaches and scouts and picked Martin.

Manziel started a total of 8 games in the NFL.

Zach Martin made 9 All-Pro teams
(7 first team, 2 second team)

I remember this being a hot topic on the airways in north Texas back then.

I remember people shitting on the Cowboys for drafting Martin and Kendrick in the first round in b2b years...while it didn't lead to a title, they definitely had one of the worst OLs in the league to one of the best immediately after drafting Martin

They don’t make them anymore like a guy retiring at 34 years old?

Martin is/was great, but that’s just an odd comment.

I am not arguing that he should not be 1st ballot; but does the committee allow many o-linemen to go 1st ballot? Seems like one of those weird quirks (like how MLB won't let certain players hit 100%) that they will make someone wait 2-3 years just because he doesn't fit some made-up set of parameters

Some yeah

He has 7 all pro selections

there is not a single player eligible for the HOF with 7 AP selections that isn’t in the HOF.

there is 1 eligible player with 6+ who isn’t in and he murdered his family.

While I still don't trust the committee to handle this properly, looking at this list, assuming it is accurate, tells me he should be held in the same category as Joe Thomas.

Zack in 11 seasons: 7 1st team All-Pro selections, 2 2nd team, 2nd in O-RoY (to Odell), 9 Pro Bowls

Joe in 11 seasons: 6 1st team All-Pro selections, 2 2nd team, 2nd in O-RoY (to AP), 10 Pro Bowls

I remember that a lot of draft "experts" criticized the Cowboys when they drafted Zach Martin instead of drafting Johnny Manziel

It could have been worse, poor Joe Thomas never sniffed the playoffs, and endured 10 straight losing seasons with the Browns.

Martin’s career coincided with the glory days of the Cowboys over the last 30 years. Five Division titles, six playoff appearances, three playoff wins, and only three losing seasons.

7 first team All-Pro's is insane.

He will be let in the moment he is eligible.
