Sure it does, especially in high school.

Did your team kick the shite out of it and run after it? That would be the only need for a 40 time. Shuttle drills would be more beneficial or how fast you can run while dribbling. If your high school was worried about your 40 time, I guarantee they weren't good.
Posted on 2/25/13 at 11:15 am to hendersonshands
we ran a 40 with and without a ball. it was only a a one time deal.
and no i don't remember my times.

in fact, I think the fact that I'm not fat qualifies more than a fat person in calling bs in these 40 times because i've actually been around fast collegiate athletes
Mark Mangino, Rick Majerus, Charlie Weis, Andy Reid, Romeo Crennel etc... say hi.

I mean I'm not saying teams need to be worried about getting 40 times every week but that kind of speed is definitely beneficial, especially at that level.
Posted on 2/25/13 at 11:20 am to RandySavage
Speed is always beneficial but I'm still not seeing the point in running 40s. You can pick up on who's fast in drills. If they're fast but trip over the ball when they get it, it doesn't really matter.

True, but then you could make the argument (and probably rightly so) that no sport needs to worry about official 40 times.

And despite the repeated posts pointing out the absurdity of these claims, people continue to post their BS times.

If you were that size and ran a 4.9 you would have been playing a different position.
