re: Yet another incredible factoid about the greatness of Sir Barrold Lamar Bonds

Bonds has zero redeemable qualities for me as a fan. a-hole, cheater, etc. I knkw steroids were everywhere but for a guy who was already a HOF to feel the need to juice just tells you how much he needed to be "the guy". I at least can understand a fringe minor league guy juicing. Oh and did I mention he was an a-hole.

Yeah. At least McGwires muscles were believable. bonds even got huge in the face and neck. He had those cheek muscles I guess.

Meh. Frick Bonds. Never was a fan of his douchy arse

I watched them regularly in the 90s and I'd prob have picked Griffey over Bonds.

Offensively, their stats in the 90s were basically a wash.
Defensively, CF >>> LF by a long shot, so Griffey clearly wins.

Frick me! And let me guess, he hit .400 against right handed pitchers whose last names ended with S in the month of June at home on night games when the air temp was 20 degrees more then the humidity level all while wearing the same lucky underwear?
I know you're trying to be pithy, but the stats posted in the OP are very relevant. Bonds hit .327 against the best in the game. Thats pretty damn good.

It's very good...but, he undoubtedly cheated while doing so. Therefore, he and those stats are tainted and discredited, end of story.

This and even his own teammates hated him.

That's putting it nicely.

you sir are no wally holland from LBL

1) Last year though, he was sixth in the American League in hitting right-handers he was facing for the first time...after the seventh inning...at home!
2) An interesting side note: that's the 14th one-run game for the Tigers already this season, tops for any team north of the Mason-Dixon Line, whose home games are not played in a dome.
3) Lou, by the way, has hit .416 lifetime versus Hanley in the month of September in even years, so that certainly bodes well for this at-bat

I'd agree with that

Strongly disagree here. Bonds consistently posted way higher OBPs than Griffey. Griffey's highest wRC+ ever was 164. Pre-steroid Bonds has 8 seasons with a higher wRC+ than that (including some monster seasons north of 190).

Why wasn't he hitting 60-70 HR's when he was in his prime?
How did he suddenly add 35 pounds of muscle mass in his late 30's and hit 60-70 HR's when he was 37-40 years old?
But by all means, build your shrine to the biggest cheater in the history of professional sports.

Why is Bonds anymore of a cheater than say Everth Cabrera or the hundreds of other random guys that took PEDs, just cause he was a better player?

I saw Bonds hit a homerun in person. So that was cool.
I saw him fly out the track in person. In Coors Field.
Same year he broke the single season record.

Because he was a huge a-hole.

Oh theres absolutely no doubt of that. Bonds sudden bulk was only slightly less obvious than Lattimers in The Program.

This isn't funny at all. The point of the OP was to show how Bonds did against the best pitchers of his era. You know, those pitchers so good that they received votes as the best pitcher of that season.

(1) I never said the other guys weren't cheaters. I liked McGwire and Does, but their numbers meant nothing to me once I found out they were cheaters.
(2) No player's body changed as drastically as Barry Bonds' body did. He put on 35-40 punds of muscle mass in his late 30's. Obviously, he was maxing out on PED's. I bet he took twice as much as McGuire, who was already a big guy who hit 49 HR's as a skinny rookie.
I guess some of you guys will still be worshipping Bonds when he dies in his late 50's from the effects of all the steroids. Why do you think all of these wrestlers die around 55-60, even if they last that long?

I was sitting in right field for Game 6 of the 2002 World Series when Bonds hit a 425' bomb to put the Giants up 5-0 in the 7th inning. The Angels came back and won 6-5 and then went on to win the Series in 7. I have kept the ticket stub in my wallet ever since.

tankyank, well you may not care that he was...is...a dick. The mother with the pre teen boy next to her, asking politely for his autograph post game in his last yr and being told " I don't sign no fricking autographs" I am sure cares a lot about his character. The boy teared up & then dropped his Giant pennant on the parking lot & walked away. Had his mother had a gun, not much doubt this arse wipe could have met his Maker that nite. We were standing near by, heard/saw it all & it was all my wife could do to pull me away: we had our 3 kids with us.- Screw this classless prick.
