re: Would you have put Flacco in?

“Hey, shut the frick up, I’m the head coach and I make all the decisions around here. frick Flacco, Jackson got us here!”
You are in the playoffs and a loss ends your season. I get if your QB is struggling to get things moving. Jackson looked completely outmatched on Sunday. I'd have given Flacco the rest of the game, or at least until he threw a pic, to try an actual NFL QB in the most important game of the season.

Watching the game it seemed like the Chargers did their homework and figured out a good game plan to stop Baltimores offense with Jackson in the game.
Faster guys to chase him than LBs

quote:No because you have to operate under the assumption that Jackson will get better since he's a rookie with about a half a season of starts under his belt.
This brings about the real question. Does the fact that the only team to face him twice completely debilitated the Ravens make you re-think hitching your cart to Jackson if you're an NFL FO?

No. Jackson got them to the playoffs
If Saban thought this way they would've lost to Georgia in the championship last year.

The defense and the Steelers imploding is why they made the playoffs.

Never mind that Bama had guys running free on routes and Tua was making wrong reads? Hurts would made same completions to guys that wide open.

Mobile QB was getting squashed by the pass rush, lets replace him with a malcontent statue.
He wasn't making quick reads to stifle the pass rush, he was holding onto the ball for far too long.

Is Flacco Tua?
No, but the flawed thought process of "he got us here" is what I was attacking. You don't just stick with something that isn't working because it worked in the past. That was my point.

Sure, but switching doesn't always workout like that. In fact, it usually doesn't.

As a fan who desperately wanted my team to win, yes (though, he may not have played any better given the poor o-line play yesterday). However, the Ravens staff and front office are committed to Lamar Jackson, so I see why they stuck with him.

Well, sticking with Jackson obviously wasn't working out either.
When something isn't working, should you continue to do that thing, or should you maybe try something else?

I think Jackson composed himself a lot better towards the end of the 4th and has some potential. But if I'm the coach, at halftime I see if Flacco can win the game and at the very least gain some trade value considering his contract won't exactly help.

Ravens are moving on from Flacco and his huge contract. I think they would have cut Flacco a couple of years ago, but his contract made it impossible.
If Flacco would have gotten hurt, then the Ravens are screwed. I don’t think he was ever an option because getting out of his contract if he’s hurt becomes a whole lot harder.

Haven't followed the Ravens closely but ran across this article yesterday. Interesting perspective on how the QB situation and what we saw this weekend from them.

Baltimore started off strong this season under quarterback Joe Flacco. At the quarter mark of the season, Flacco was on pace for MVP-caliber stats. But an overwhelming emphasis on throwing the football significantly more than they ran, allowed defenses to learn and cater to the scheme.
Most offensive coordinators might have seen teams putting more defenders into the secondary and the offense struggling as a sign to switch something up but not Mornhinweg. Instead, Mornhinweg doubled down on the strategy, throwing an average of 41.6 times per game from weeks 5-9, going to the air even when they held leads.
The switch to Lamar Jackson after the bye led Baltimore to completely flip their scheme. Instead of throwing twice as much as they ran, the Ravens’ offense began running an average of 45.1 times per game over the final seven games. Though many only looked to the win column to be happy with the results, Baltimore was running toward an inevitable return to frustration when teams altered their strategy to stop the Ravens.

You don't think this had anything to do with the defense playing soft in the 4th due to the large lead?
Posted on 1/7/19 at 3:46 pm to Epic Cajun
Yes I understand that. I was referring to the fact he had several fumbles, 0 yds, and an INT in the 1st half and threw a nice TD in the 4th while he was getting booed out of his home stadium. Takes some courage especially in that type of implications. Not a fan of his but how much do you expect againt the could be #1 seed Chargers in his first post-season game?

I was at the game. The offense started getting booed near the end of the 2nd quarter. Midway through the 3rd, the booes were extremely loud. All of the fans around me were ready for flacco to come in. I think the Ravens will trust in Lamar next season. Unless he drastically improves, he isn't the future. They will try to trade flacco. They should bring back RG3 as the backup.

Nice, dropping in from the rafters with his first comment in 4 years.

Yes
Chargers had ZERO respect for Jacksons arm, they werent afraid of him beating them downfield.
Flacco gives them reason to actually have to cover guys. Chargers would of gone into a whole different formation on defense had he come in
