I think even a walk-off wouldn’t matter. Italy would only record 26 outs in a best case scenario still leaving them 1 short of the US. Pretty sure if Mexico scores 5, US gets through.

Ha you are correct, ok earned runs doesn’t matter, a tie in runs allowed divided by outs can’t end in a tie because Mexico is the home team.

Only scenario where Mexico scores 5 and US doesn’t advance is if the game goes to extra innings tied 4-4 and Mexico wins in a walk off in the 11th inning or later.

DeRosa just acknowledged that he "misspoke" on MLB network earlier today when he said they had already clinched. That's not misspeaking, that's not knowing the scenario until someone told him he was wrong afterwards.

Even if US advances I’m not feeling too optimistic. The lineup has been underwhelming until they get a rag arm. You won’t get more than 4 innings from a starter and the bullpen has looked like hammered dogshit outside of Mason Miller.

Mexico and Italy will both agree before hand to mail it in once Mexico goes up 3-0 and keep USA at home. Another reason this format is absolutely stupid

1. Italy beats Mexico tomorrow (any score at all)
• Italy goes 4-0, Mexico drops to 2-2.
• USA takes 2nd place automatically. No tiebreaker needed.
OR
2. If Mexico beats Italy tomorrow, USA gets in if:
• Mexico scores 5 or more runs (examples: 5-4, 5-0, 6-3, 7-2, 8-5, 9-1, 10-4 — anything 5+)
• OR Italy scores 6 or more runs against Mexico (examples: Mexico wins 7-6, 8-6, 9-7, 10-8, 11-6 — any shootout)
Only way USA is OUT: Mexico wins a very low-scoring game where they score 4 or fewer AND Italy scores 5 or fewer.
Examples of bad scores (USA eliminated):
4-3, 4-2, 4-1, 4-0, 3-2, 3-1, 3-0, 2-1, 2-0, 1-0, etc.

Yeah, people are making it way more complicated than it is. It’s this simple, US advances if:
-Italy wins, no matter score;
OR
-Mexico scores 5 or more runs in a game that doesn’t go to extra innings.
If Mexico wins and scores 4 or fewer runs, US is out. If Mexico wins and scores exactly 5 runs in a game that goes to extra innings, US is out.
*The only time it might get complicated is if it goes to extra innings and Mexico wins with more than 5 runs scored. It could possibly change the calculation if Mexico wins 7-6 or 6-5 in extras or something, depending on what inning the run was scored. But otherwise, it’s pretty simple.
