The ones in the era before Henry will be interesting:
Adrian Peterson - lock 1st ballot
Lesean McCoy, Marshawn Lynch, Frank Gore - Decent arguments either way

As for the current era of passing game focus, RB stats will take a hit. Steeler Leveon Bell was headed toward the HOF til he sat out and he never got going again.

Of the active backs, Henry has the best chance. 2000 yards in a season puts him in rare air. I think he's in already but a 1st ballot lock with two more good seasons.

It is reasonable to expect the number of RBs in the HOF will decrease and WRs will increase over the next two decades.

Christian McCaffrey and Saquon Barkley need more on their resumes to get in.

Unless he gets a career ending injury I think he's got at least 3 good years left. He is beast in training. I don't think he hits the 30 year old drop off.

I think this, along with the 2000 yard season, are huge in his favor.

It’s no secret that the RB position is being devalued. But the top guys at the position are still really marketable and interesting guys. The NFL can’t want them to be obscure and pointless. And if Derrick Henry can’t make the HoF then moving forward then who the shite will?

I personally don't see how you keep someone like Frank Gore out of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He had a fantastic career and accumulated 16,000 rushing yards.

He had a great career and he'll get in but he's the definition of a complier. He's got the stats but he's a borderline top 10 back from his era. Granted, his era is long as shite and he deserves credit for that. Even his best year LT, Larry Johnson, and Stephen Jackson were better.

I fall on the opposite side, I think he just got those stats cause he played 40 years. Outside of his 2nd season, dude was never a top 5 back in the league, maybe even only fringe top 10 in a few years. He grinded out a bunch of 1000-1100 yard seasons, that’s not HOF to me.

He’s only got HOF stats cause he played for so damn long

Terrell Davis voting created a precedent they can't ignore.

Be talked about as the dominant RB for a few years and you're in.

Granted Henry has to fricking win something in the NFL like TD if his career is cut short.

DH not only has the 2K season and the 99yd run, but he has some legendary power back moments with his stiff arms. Those viral, social media type moments add to the legend and definitely have an impact on voters. They're obviously not the entirety of a player's candidacy. But, on one of those borderline situations I can see where those type highlights or plays that are so noteworthy can define a player in a voter's mind.

Yes.

He will get in on play, stats, and (if that were not enough) a desire to give RB’s a boost in an era when the position is not as prominent (especially by the time he is eligible for the HOF).

A freak of nature. Speed, power, and endurance wrapped up in a 6'3" 240lb. body. Henry will not only be in the Pro HOF he will be in the college football HOF, which by the way, is much more difficult than the NFL.

The guy is one of a kind and he has had his doubters in spite of the crazy numbers he has put up since high school. Just doesn't matter at this point, he's simply the best of his generation.

Only two people in the history of the NFL have more yards than him. He complied those stats as a running back, to be that's incredibly impressive at a position who's career last 3-4 seasons.

But that he was the best player on a back to back Superbowl winner gives them the ability to ignore RBs who were just great.

That second one there will trigger a friend of mine and he has a point. A defended touch a face mask and it is a penalty but a running back can straight up grab and grip a facemask and shove a defender wherever he wants and nothing is called.
