Let’s not forget: the Suns were horrible, Ayton went to high school in Phoenix and went to Arizona. It’s kind of a no-brainer to take the hometown guy when you’re trying to win back fans.
And I remember people saying Luka was probably the best player in the draft, but it was kinda understood he wouldn’t go 1…just like people said Dirk was probably the best player in his draft and KG was probably the best player when he went out. Just a little too much of a risk in that pick

Those other 2 dont belong with Fultz lol Simmons is a giant pussy when it comes to shooting but still I've been hearing of when he plays without Embiid. shite he dominates in the reg season I know. Also I wouldnt build a team around Simmons but It could work maybe.

IE Dwight with Hedo, Anderson, Lewis, Nelson, Pietrus, alston etc as shooters. He's good at kicking it out to the open guy and getting off rebounds.

Still needs to stop being so scared to shoot bro how u been playing this long and that's ya problem. Holding him back from legit greatness.

I'm not usually 100%positive about things on this board because alot of our discussions are opinions, but I can tell you this, that statement is wrong.

Gms don't give one frick about espn hype. Just go look at certain picks over the years for confirmation. Think Bennett and the guy jordan drafted.

All the players you named showed a ton of potential. Simmons may have showed more potential than anyone recently. Just imagine if he developed a jumper like he should have by now. Aytons a great player.fultz had a weird injury and even weirder reaction to said injury. All the players you named are at minimum good starters

You’re hindsight is so sharp, did you read an ESPN magazine ?

It sucks to share air and worse, an interest with you.

There’s a couple media guys that now act like the Suns we’re insane not to take Luka at the time

I'd love it is somebody looked up their comments leading up to or immediately after the draft

quote:

I remember that draft and I don’t remember a whole lot of “Luka should be the clear cut number 1 guy” talk during that predraft.

there wasn't. everyone acknowledged he easily could be the best guy Ayton was probably the leader but wasn't a consensus #1, but was a consensus projection at #1 b/c of the local factor

Ayton's major projection issue was defense

Luka's major projection issues were athleticism and conditioning (like with basically all white Euros)

Trae's major projection issues were defense and if he could get his shot off (esp at the rim) in the NBA

i was all-in scouting these 3 this year b/c i had the #2 pick in TDBBL. i wanted None to pass on Luka and thought i almost convinced him to, but he took him #1. i messed up (fantasy-wise) and picked Ayton #2. i thought Trae was going to have a rough time in the NBA, especially if the Hawks cared about his defense (doesn't matter for fantasy other than minutes)

DeAndre Ayton had 19 pts, 22 rebounds, 4 blocks, and hit all 3 of his FTs tonight.

He was a game best +/- of +8 and was the best player on the floor.

in the WCF he's averaging:

20.3 ppg
13.5 rpg
1.8 bpg
69.4 FG%

and is legitimately anchoring their defense

but since he didn't average 25ppg this year he's unworthy of a top-3 pick

Ayton and Trae Young are just babies in the league. They aren't near as good as they are going to be. This is the nation's first look at both. By this time next season even Barkley will know who they are.

He is legit the MVP of the series… and if they do win the team from the East has nobody to stop him.

A lot of people thought Ben Simmons was going to be some version of Lebron James or the potential was there. Not GOAT worthy projection or anything but they thought he could play the same way as a devastating point forward. That’s why he went #1. Problem is his offensive game peaked at age 17. He also shoots with the wrong hand.

After his season in BR? I have no idea who "they" would be. He couldn't lift a college team.

If its the Bucks, it will be his biggest test.

Think about if the Suns win... Ayton will have faced front courts with LeBron/AD, Jokic, Zubac/Morris, then Giannis/Lopez.

Since LINK began tracking DFG% in 2013-14, Deandre Ayton is the first player to ever carry a +70 true shooting percentage and sub-40 DFG% in the playoffs.

Ayton’s numbers are 71.1 TS% + 39.0 DFG%.

I'm sure you're already getting crushed for this bad post, but wanted you to know, this isn't a thing that happens.

Teams in every sport employ loads of scouts, coaches and front office personnel who deep study draft picks. Outside publications are nothing more than something you look at to get extra info that they may have that you don't. Their 'hype' and rankings mean zero internally.

Anthony Davis stays injured, brah, he has never had an injury-free season. Ayton has played great ball all playoffs, rock-solid and injury-free, he's the type that would play with a groin injury. Simmons just needs to do some serious work on developing a jump shot and you would have a perennial all-star player. Philly promises to do serious work with him during the off-season to develop a dependable jump shot, but it's a testament to his great talent that he made it that far to the NBA without a jump shot.

Those in the know would call the 2018 draft one of the most loaded drafts since 2003.

Luka is already on a HOF track. Ditto with Trae.

Ayton is a future all star.
Shai Gilgeous Alexander is a future all star.
Mikal Bridges is probably the most underrated wing in the league.
Jaren Jackson Jr is really good but has been injured.
Michael Porter Jr is a crazy offensive threat.
Colin Sexton is putting up good numbers early.
Kevin Huerter has arguably been the Hawks 2nd best player this playoffs.
Miles Bridges is really coming into his own.

And Grayson Allen, Devonte Graham, Landry Shamet, Shake Milton, Bruce Brown Jalen Brunson and Deanthony Melton are all playing minutes for contending teams.

This was a really deep talented class.
