How did Brock Purdy last until the final pick?

It’s drafting amateur players to play among the best of the best, it’s very hard to do.

He is a white CB, that is a rarity in NFL, maybe that’s some of it

That hindsight sure makes seeing easy huh

DeJean was widely regarded as a R1 talent and put on film a lot of game changing abilities. He single handedly won games for Iowa and led them to the CCG without playing any offense. Pick sixes, INT, punt returns, tackles for loss.

Guy played multiple positions in the backfield at Iowa, who runs primarily 4-2-5 zone schemes, and teams that play a lot of man didn’t believe he could matchup outside and be elite. Simple as that. He’s a great fit for what Philly is doing with their zone. He also showed the ability to cover tier 1 WR outside at Iowa, albeit not as often as a guy out of Georgia or Ohio state. I think with the experience he has now, he’d be fine moving outside.

Tom Brady was a sixth round pick. Drafting football players isn’t an exact science.

Plus there’s coaching and development, utilizing players in the right scheme. The Eagles have a great front 7, he probably would look as good with a shitty team like the Raiders

I don't think he's the best DB the Eagles drafted that year, they took Quinyon Mitchell in the first round.

Same reason Ladd McConkey was a second round pick. Both would have been taken in the top 15 of the draft if they were black.

The same reason people were saying CMC wasn't fast enough (despite combine numbers mirroring that of shady mccoy), he's white.

The fact that Phily loaded that defense up with 2 top 5 CBs in the 1st/2nd round is absolutely absurd. Crazy scouting and front office there.

Dumb lol

There was literally a white WR taken in the first round in 24. Ladd's best season at UGA was 58/760/7. He was injured much of his last season. Him falling behind Nabers/Harrison/Thomas/Worthy/Legette/Coleman was perfectly acceptable.

Ironically, the only WR I would have considered taking him over was Pearsall.

Regardless, when he was expected to make a WR leap, Ladd was pretty average this year.

The politically incorrect answer is because he was white…and a top notch white CB is a unicorn in this league. Most don’t believe in unicorns.

A lot of pre-draft mocks had him going mid-1st round, but DeJean fractured his leg and missed the last two months of his college season. He also didn’t work out at the combine either. He only did his Pro Day.

So…injured white DB caused the drop.

He was injured in practice before their 11th game. That season, he was a Unanimous All American, Big Ten DB of the year, and Thorp finalist who might have won had he not been injured. He was a known commodity from his highlight reel 2022 and shut down half the field.

Amon Ra is a top 5 receiver. Yet he was only drafted in the 4th round. As someone else said, drafting players isn't an exact science.

yeah, because he was a tenth of the player DeJean was in college and that might be generous

I remember being DV'd a lot during the draft saying he was the steal of the draft, something about being white and being the Big Ten... another thing this board was overwhelmingly wrong about again. He already has had a better career than Mathieu.
