I typically don't watch it but watching the Cavs at least, I feel like I'm watching summer open gym. WIth a chance to go to eastern conference finals, we have 2 on 1s where the dribbler has a wide open 9 foot shot instead he takes another step and lobs a bad alley oop attempt. So many careless turnovers. Is that always a thing? I don't remember the casualness in these moments for protecting the ball.

It’s sloppy because for the past 20 years American youth basketball has been sloppy at the top. AAU and constant tournaments focus more on raw athleticism and less on skills and understanding of the game.

CLE only had 4 or so games with their top 4 guys before the playoffs started teams never win a title when they make a major late season trade because the chemistry isn’t there. The trade was to get beard in the building and then for Bron to come next season.

You feel that way because that is what you’re watching

OKC has exploited this style of play.

The constant complaining to the refs by coaches and players is nauseating. Then a player will flop to the point where the foul call is reviewed( I’m convinced this is to get more commercials in) to see if it’s flagrant only to determine there wasn’t even any contact. Why can’t they fix this shite?

Whatever you do, don't watch the WNBA if you dislike sloppy basketball.

My Dad still watches. He played college, had a cup of coffee in the pros and then did a little semi-pro for his company team back when that was a thing. Then, he coached for 25 years.

He loves basketball more than anything other than his kids and my Mom. The kids are debatable sometimes.

He will watch college and the pros but he normally turns it off at half time.

He says, "It's just not pretty anymore. It's not fun to watch."

I prefer fast paced casual sloppy basketball to some of the NCAA tournament games when players are absolutely paralyzed by the fear of making a mistake.

Players are trained to run/gun....no offense and very little defense.

Yep, and it’s happening in a lot of youth sports now unfortunately, especially the travel/tournament environments. Youth sports used to be (and should be) about developing good habits, learning techniques, refining skills. Now it’s just about winning, which means letting your athletes out-athlete the other team. You’re not learning anything doing that.
