Mississippi is also a mystery considering the talent in that state.

This is it right here. Texas HS football are the most fertile recruiting grounds in the country. Lots of these kids end up going out of state.
It has to be a frustrating problem for Texas universities that see soon much talent leave the state.

Because LSU has a better football program than all the schools in Texas

The reason it struggle is their is less room to grow for Texas players due to higher advanced high school football programs, that’s why you see an abundant of three star players ball out from lousiana, mississippi, and Alabama because a lot of their high school programs are night and day away from a college program

That’s with 5 (soon to be 6) Power 5 programs and 12 total FBS programs. It’s also while being in the state that always finishes in the top 3 in the country for top recruits produced annually.

Maybe all the top recruits are spread out amongst these schools plus schools like Oklahoma, OSU, and LSU that dilutes their ability to win nationally.

Many of the Texas legends do not even go to big schools though.

Texas as a state has had football programs, as opposed to teams, much more so than states like LA, GA, and FL.

I know it’s cliche but how many of Texas’s top prospects are maxed out through basically professional training versus the raw recruits found through the south?

More like they never had that high of ceilings to begin with… their dawgs are all from East of Dallas and Houston to the LA border

Remember when the last place team in the Big 12 beat Iowa? 4/5 of the Big Ten sucks arse

Cool story. Iowa loses to bums all the time.

This conference conversation is all about money and resources. Pretty clear a mass consolidation of power is unfolding.

Winning is not a priority in the state of Texas, once you get past high school.

Think about it... their best and most proudest moment as a people was a loss... but they were outmanned and outgunned and were real brave and lasted a few days so... Remember The Alamo!

There are many more important things than winning, such as which boosters get to interview the coach candidates, making sure everyone knows the right cheers, the jokes written by the milkmen, etc.

Plus, a lot of their players burn out in high school. Remember, Varsity Blues was a documentary...

They literally just had a team win a playoff game and play for the title.

So they had a team win a playoff game and proceeded to get eviscerated in humiliating fashion in the worst loss in championship history. It was the first time that anyone in the future B12 made the playoffs or BCS title. Very few Major bowl appearances in history from the collective future B12.

The problems with wealth gap the new big 12 is going to face will become visible over time, especially as the Big Ten and SEC poach the remaining premier brands from the coasts.

LSUs program is better mostly due to talent. If Texas talent stayed in state, then what?

Seems like you answered your own question.

Also, Baylor, TCU, and Texas Tech overachieve anytime they make noise. Am I supposed to knock a couple of private schools and a university on the plains for not winning a national title? TCU and Baylor have overachieved, if anything, over the last decade.

Texas and aTm have underachieved, no doubt.

The other FBS programs:

UTSA
North Texas
Texas State
Rice
Houston
UTEP
SMU

I’m not sure what you are expecting from them. UTSA would be an overachiever, and it’s not like Houston and SMU are garbage.

There’s also a constant exodus of top talent leaving to the SEC, Ohio State, and Oklahoma.

The two biggest programs have been horribly mismanaged for long periods recently, Texas for the last 15 years and a lot of the 80s and 90s, A&M for about 30 and points before that. The lower ceiling programs overachieve like crazy and have each had points where they are very strong. Why that is I don’t know, booster pissing matches are prevalent at both schools. As much as both fanbases like to antagonize each other they share many of the same issues over the last decade. The Baylors and TCUs are leaner and meaner and do more with less. Talent leaving doesn’t help but that’s a symptom not a cause.

Playing in the SWC before that didn’t help matters at all, it was a small regional conference that didn’t really fit some of the schools in it.

same reason why the cowboys haven't won in so long.

same reason why england hasn't won a world cup since 1966.

same reason why toronto maple leafs haven't won the stanley cup since 1967.

its because they are all based at the mecca of their respective sport, so there is far more pressure and expectations and its too overwhelming for players/coaches/execs.

Why does college football in the state of Texas underachieve so much?

Once you get to the top 10-15 programs that have every resource available, winning in CFB is almost all about the HC.

Who has Texas had In that position since Darrell Royal? A lot of shite with the exception of Mack Brown, and he’s not anything too special either.
