Why aren’t there MLB games in New Orleans during the summer? Astros? Braves?

It seems like I remember that once in a while back in the day. Might draw a good crowd here and there.

But why?
The Superdome is terrible for MLB

Maybe they had some preseason games

I wish minor league baseball would give it a go in Baton Rouge with a new downtown stadium

Teams don't want to leave the ticket, parking, and concession revenue on the table.

The NHL used to have each team play two neutral site games a year.

i think since the last renovation, it's no longer adaptable to baseball

in late 80s/early 90s they would have exhibition games every year.

I watched Giants vs A's one of those years (McGwire hit a BOMB)
Dodgers played there another year.

Louisiana is more of a football and basketball state than it is a baseball state.

Louisiana can support minor league baseball. Build a stadium in a downtown Louisiana city and it will thrive.

MiLB in Baton Rouge won’t make it when LSU is playing. LSU is king and always will be. LSU is an MiLB team practically.

THIS. There will never be another baseball game in the Superdome.

The Plaza level sidelines used to be on movable tracks. Anyone remember crossing those hanging skywalks to get from the concourse to the seats there? The sideline seats would be moved back to create a more square baseball shape instead of the rectangular football shape:

It was still a crappy layout for baseball with terrible sightlines, field/turf, acoustics and lighting:

With the post-Katrina renovations, the movable sideline seats were replaced with permanent concrete ones (with added 'bunker clubs' underneath them) and the Plaza level concourses were slightly widened (but in that added space, they put more kiosks and concession carts so it's still too crowded).

From the 70s into the 80s, there was almost always a pre-season game every year in the dome. Those stopped when the idea of getting an expansion or relocated MLB team (an original intent for the Dome) became unrealistic for New Orleans.

Minor league ball lasted one season (1977) in the Dome, with the AA New Orleans Pelicans. It was a failure.

College baseball tournaments such as the Busch Challenge and some Tulane-LSU matchups continued into the early 2000s. I once saw a Hornets game at the arena and walked across to catch the Tulane-LSU game underway after the basketball game.

Louisiana sucks in the summer for one thing. It rains every day and is miserably hot and humid. Who wants to be suffering through that?
