How y’all gonna have a greatest dual threat thread and leave out Air McNair? Dude was an interception throwing machine but he could do some things with his legs when he needed to.

Vick.

Steve Young was a good runner, but he cracked 500 yards once in his career for a full season.

Vick had over 500 yards 6 times and cracked 1,000 yards on the ground once. Vick was a true dual threat. Young was a great passer who was also a threat with his legs, but not a true run/pass guy.

It's Cam Newton, and it's not close.

John Elway was a better passer. Mike Vick was a better runner (arguably. more explosive runner anyway). But there's never been a QB with the combined dual abilities of running and passing at the level of Cam Newton.

I know not pro, but Vick's first college td was special. Against William and Mary, was so nervous taking the field he forgot his qb wrist band / play chart, so he borrowed one from the backup (who was right handed). First play was a play action roll out, but because he had his backups chart it was backwards. Rolls out to the right, realizes he shouldn't throw across his body, so u-turns and scrambles for a 75 yard td. His athleticism was incredibly to watch in person.

Cam Newton and Michael Vick are better running quarterbacks than Steve Young, but Steve Young is the better dual threat quarterback.

Cam Newton is only 30, plenty of QBs have their best years throwing the ball after 30. Cam was having a great year passing in Norv Turner's offense the first half of last year before his shoulder got hurt. He's coming into this year healthy, 2nd year in the offense, maybe the best supporting cast overall he's had on offense in his career (which isn't saying much) if everybody stays healthy. Christian McCaffrey can take the main load rushing the ball now so he can focus more on passing. There's no reason not to think he can have a career year passing the ball this season.
