Tebow or Bush

Yes...this is a given.

People love to revise the popularity or greatness of Bush for all his troubles and losing the Rose Bowl.

And bring up Vince Young.

He blew out Vince Young in the Heisman award...that's how big a star Bush was...to blow out a star like Young with absurd numbers leading the Texas Longhorns...and their national appeal.

Young was great, Bush was a rockstar.

Am I remembering wrong, or wasn't Vince Young viewed as somewhat of an underachiever or overhyped until his senior season?

Between Tebow and Bush, which one is still appearing in nationally televised TV commercials? That’s your answer.

a. He didn't play a "senior season". He left after his RS Jr. year.

b. His coming out party was in the Rose Bowl v. Michigan following the 2004 season, which was his first starting.

I think the SEC bias is showing here with the Tebow answers. Hes a clear second, don't get me wrong. But I think Reggie Bush was just another level of star.

Wild card entry, Manti Te'o.

They say bad publicity is still publicity, and holy crap did he ride a wave of it.

How about Pat White? He went 42-9 as a starter (at West Virginia!), and is still the only quarterback to ever go 4-0 in bowl games as a starter (2 of those were BCS bowls). I say he is the most underrated college football player of the 2000s.

Maybe I just don't remember, but Tebow strikes me as having had much bigger celebrity off the field than Bush. Leinart too perhaps.

Skip Bayless made sure Tebow wasn’t just a regional thing.

No, he's not. Tebow got infinitely more press coverage than Bush did, and I wasn't living in the South when either player was in college. The religious aspect with Tebow took it to another level, and 2008 Florida was a good bit better than any of Bush's USC teams. Time zone and watchability were a huge part of this too. Florida games were a lot easier to find on TV than USC games. Bush played at USC back when ABC games were still mostly regional broadcasts. He also played several games after most people had gone to bed.

Tebow was on another planet than any other college football player in my lifetime as far as press coverage and stardom. It's really not close, IMO.
