basketball is king there. That’s a really good, under the radar pick that never crossed my mind.
Sure but it was mainly an afterthought at UNC to FB until NC State became a powerhouse under Evert Case in 40's and 50's and the rest of tobacco road followed suit.

NC State is the Jan of North Carolina and the Triangle. A complete afterthought, always behind UNC and Duke.

Oregon State comes to mind.
They are better at baseball and were better at basketball during the Ralph Miller years.
The school to the north just a few miles west of Idaho is the correct answer to this thread. Their entire sports existence is to cheer against Washington. The rivalry is super lopsided, except baseball.

NC State has the better football program of the three
Vs UNC recently, yes. All-time, no. UNC leads the series 68-40-6
Duke and NC State do not play yearly in football. They have played 5 times since 2009 and Duke has won 4 of those 5 including the last two (23 &24). Duke also leads the all-time series 43-37-5.

They're so much a little brother that Washington became Oregon's biggest rival the last two Decades.... Oregon just sort of puts up with having to play them in the Civil War.

It's aTm. Haven't won anything in forever. Leave the BIG 12 to escape big brother and probably had assurances from the SEC that they would be the only Texas school in the league only to have the Longhorns follow them and then have the SEC mandate that they start playing Texas in football again. Not just a little brother, but a stepchild as well.

It is EASILY Texas A&M

Historically yes State has had the worse program football wise, recently they've been usually better than UNC. Duke fluctuates between success and the end of the Cutcliffe years were really bad there. Either way all 3 haven't been great but State is probably the best
However it's basketball that runs the Triangle and NCSU is the clear little brother to UNC, I dont think Duke really cares about NCSU just UNC
the best picks historically are probably A&M or Wash State

Texas taking their baseball coach was the most big brother thing I’ve seen.

Michigan State ("little brother") to Michigan ("big brother") is definitely up there.

It really is. UF played @ A&M in 2022 and so many people were wearing HORNS DOWN shirts.

They literally had their baseball coach negotiating with Texas while in the CWS final.
This.
