I think 04 was Louisville's best team. Only loss on the road to Miami.

04 Louisville vs 04 Utah would've been the greatest mid major matchup ever.

Washington wasn’t on probation. They beat OU in the Orange Bowl.

2010 Boise had the talent and the coaching to win the BCS title game if they got there. I’d have taken them over Auburn or Oregon. Louisville was also in a BCS conference by 2006.

Louisville's 1990 season is interesting. 10-1-1, with multiple victories over power conference teams and some damn good ones at that. Beat Bama in their bowl game. The tie? San Jose State. The loss? USM by 12. How do you even do that? SJSU was barely managing to field a team back then

If all these Big East teams are considered midmajor then clearly Miami is the greatest midmajor ever

Let’s not forget Arizona State in the WAC under Frank Kush (1958-1979)

- 10 top 25 finished
- 19 out of 22 season above .500
- 6 ten-plus win seasons
- two undefeated seasons
- AP/UPI #2 in 1975
- .761 winning percentage
- (6-1) bowl record
- 7 WAC titles

Will never forget Michael Bush breaking his leg in the season opener against UK. He had something like 100+ yds and 3 TDs when he got hurt during the game. He would have been in the Heisman race

midmajor
There is no real definition of this term other than "team that I didn't know about personally yet when I was eight years old."

Huh? Well, recently it’s pretty clearly defined as a Group of 5 team.

Yes there is. It came from basketball. The midmajor conferences are those that are D-1 but not the power conferences of D-1

Well that's true...and Washington didn't get the votes because of probation? Regardless, BYU got the votes, won the MNC....

No probation for Washington in 1984. They should have won. BYU beat their best opponent, Michigan, in the Holiday Bowl. Compare that score to Washington’s win against that same Michigan team in Ann Arbor earlier that season. Plus beat #1 Oklahoma in Orange Bowl so should have easily won the title if the voters were informed.

It’s Timmy Chang. He’s their HC now.

Hawaii was going to be my answer, I loved those teams.

Colt Brennan was the GOAT. RIP

The Ville was in the Big East which was still a power conference, albeit typically a weaker one. That particular year had some solid teams, though.

Yep - brain fart on my part.

. They are solid contenders for the 12th seed this year

Not this year. They have a new HC after firing Andy Avalos and their defense didn't look all that great against Georgia Southern.

An interesting thing to note about this year's team is Dirk Koetter is back at the school as an OC for his third coaching stint. He was previously HC from '98-'00 and was initially an offensive analyst and then interim OC in '22.
