I mean I'd say I'm athletic

As in I could go swim laps, toss and catch a football, golf, run, shoot some hoops, etc...and not look out of place. Now I certainly don't excel at one sport to the degree any of the pro athletes do but I think there are many pro athletes that couldn't toss a ball to home plate or throw a football

I guess it matters how you define athlete...is it someone who is in prime physical condition that's reached the pinnacle of a sport. Is it someone that just has the natural ability and talent to transition and pick up a variety of sports with ease?

Guess that's the primary question you need to answer first

And I guess you're right. If we take a spin on Lester's example, is a guy who is 6'4", 225 lbs, 8% body fat but who can't play any sport to save his life athletic? You can't say he is.

Anyone in this thread who is athletic can go play basketball at the rec, flag football, pick up soccer, toss around a ball or swing the batting gages, but very few to none would be able to hop on a pair of skates and play 5 minutes of hockey.

In all facets of criteria, Hockey has the most "complete" athletes

Looks like my opinion is pretty much exactly that of Lester's

Actually I think there are some basketball players that the only time they DON'T look awkward is when they have a basketball in their hands

Well I dont know for sure. I think the winners of the decathlon are the most pure athletes. But could Bruce Jenner play Hockey? No. But if he practiced like an NHL player did from birth how would he have been is the question

That's the dumbest shite I've ever heard. The only reason people can pick up flag football, soccer, baseball, or basketball is because those sports use your feet in a pair of shoes. People walk and run every day of their lives, so that is natural.

The only reason some people wouldn't be able to play a game of pick-up hockey is because they don't know how to skate.

Knowing how to skate has nothing to do with athleticism.

If people learned to skate from birth like they learn to walk and run from birth, then people can play pick-up hockey just as easily as they could pick up any other sport that doesn't require skates.

It's like saying water polo has the most complete athletes because a lot of people don't know how to swim and can't just get in the pool and play. Well no shite. But that doesn't have anything to do with being athletic.

Ok, you still aren't accounting for the mental and physical toughness of hockey players. Add in to that hand-eye coordination, endurance, and precision, and you have by far the most complete athlete in professional sports...Hockey players aren't a bunch of lazy pussies like Baskebtall players.

But I'd expect hockey to not get any love from a bunch of turds who barely know what hockey is

Thats fricking stupid. Kickers and Punters perform outside of the concept of football and account like 1% of the game. Pitchers are the single most important position in sports.

Mental toughtness and hand-eye coordination don't really deal with athleticism.

Athleticism deals with strength, speed, explosiveness.

Basketball players I believe are the most athletic.

Baseball is the least athletic because it has more to do with fundamentals then just pure athleticism.

Soccer players have insane endurance and speed and explosiveness as well but less strength. I think they would come in second.

and you're right about not every average joe can go out and hop on ice skates, especially in the south, because not many people do it in general and don't practice it.

Many people besides cheerleaders and people that actually practice doing flips couldn't go out and do a back flip either, but that doesn't mean they are elite athletes

Jesus. If you were explaining the game of football to an alien, how long into the conversation would you be before you mentioned a kicker or punter? And don't fricking lie, it would be an aside like "oh yeah and you can kick it if you dont score."

The frick? So... Don't include two of the most unathletic positions in football. Got it.

Meanwhile, include First Base and Designated Hitter for baseball. Cool.

This is how i define an athlete pretty much. Especially when you are comparing EVERY sport together.

A guy like Andre Drummond(basketball player) is 6'11" explosive basketball player. He's a great athlete in the realm of basketball, but could he play another sport and excel? Probably not. I think you must take that into consideration when you are comparing every sport together.

Otherwise you are just arguing who is the best athlete in each sport. And you might as well start a thread asking just that.

I don't think they could. Watching someone that never played baseball try to swing a bat or throw a baseball is one of the most cringe worthy things I've ever seen. Baseball is a sport that you can either play or you can't. You have to have natural fluidity. You can teach a big fast uncoordinated kid to play football or basketball. A big fast uncoordinated kid will never be good at baseball. It's just a different type of athleticism.

This is all just wild speculation to support your argument. How many big fast uncoordinated kids do you see in the NBA/NFL I'm wondering? You make it seem like both sports are rampant with them, which is entirely inaccurate.

If you are talking, which professional league has the most athletic/unathletic competitors (which is how it sounds cause he's asking which owns the most unathletic people), baseball is at least behind basketball and maybe football.

The NBA has a natural advantage of only carrying 15 players on it's roster to boot. There's 450 of them. They've whittled and trimmed down the fat more than the other sports til only the best of the best (minus Eric Gordon *inside joke*) are playing on NBA teams.

What about contact? There's virtually no contact in baseball and the single biggest form of man to man collision was outlawed by the MLB. Is brawling athletic? Because that's what NFL players have to do. I don't think you could call the fatties on the line uncoordinated for that very reason.

LOL you're just throwing out a bunch of random words. "Toughness". "Precision".

Which has nothing to do with being athletic.

You aren't honestly trying to answer the question. You are using the question to express your love for the sport of hockey.
