What's your definition of "athletic"...please describe to me, with random words, what it takes to excel at basketball. What makes them a superior athlete over all others?

Anyone in this thread who is athletic can go play basketball at the rec, flag football, pick up soccer, toss around a ball or swing the batting gages, but very few to none would be able to hop on a pair of skates and play 5 minutes of hockey.
Skating is a skill most in the South haven't done since elementary school like the other things you listed.
I have friends from Wisconsin that can skate backwards and blindfolded, but look like a chick when they try to throw a football. I bet Bo Jackson was a fricking terrible ice skater at age 18 because he had never attempted it. Want to tell me he's a bad athlete?
You people have got to separate skill from natural, innate ability.
It should be who has better hand eye coordination, who is quicker, more agile, faster reflexes, combination of speed and strength without sacrificing one for the other, etc. Not who has learned a certain skillset their entire life and mastered it by adulthood.
Guys like Calvin Johnson, Lebron James, Christiano Ronaldo, Mike Trout, etc. are all off the charts on these things.

Where in hockey does one lack any of these traits? I would be willing to bet Gretzky in his prime could run just as fast as most of the dudes in the NBA

When did I say basketball players are superior athletes to all others?

To answer this thread, you must forget about people in sports who are good at a skill like jump shooting, skating, batting, etc.
Look at who is a rare combination of coordination, speed, strength, and agility.
Then look at the sports that have the least amount of those people.

Mental toughtness and hand-eye coordination don't really deal with athleticism.
one of the definitions of athleticism is:
physically active and strong; good at athletics or sports:
There isn't an elite athlete that ever lived that wasn't highly coordinated or mentally tough.
Coordination and skill is what separates Lebron James & Al Faroqu Aminu. Or LEbron and Jeremy Evans, or Gerald Green, or Rudy Gay

I already did several pages back. And TheCatrpillar nailed it. So read what he said.

Honestly, most are.
Basketball is weird. You have extremely unathletic, unskilled guys in it that are there simply because of there size. You also have guys in it who have very little skill, but are there simply because of their freakish athleticism.
It be like if baseball had guys who could throw 101 mph with no aim whatsoever.

No, i blame my wording for this misconception. Not which sport has the most people who are unathletic. Which sport has the people who are the most unathletic

I already answered you a few posts up.

He said a bunch of bullshite that eliminated the fact that hockey players skate, so they can't be comparable because they have a skill that others don't
Listen, I get that. It makes sense. But realistically, hockey players weight train, speed train, etc...Off the rink, they are just athletic as any other athlete out there. More so than baseball, since we aren't including swinging a bat or throwing a pitch.

The fact that its a certainty that any position of hockey player is more athletic than, say, a first baseman, eliminates hockey players. If you arent last place, there is not point arguing about them.

Skating is a learned skill. It isn't inherent athletic ability.
It's like saying Steve Novak is athletic because he can shoot 3 pointers.

So then how do we all go about deciding what events that every human is capable of doing so we can equally compare them and answer the question.
Running speed and endurance
lifting
reflexes
Ignoring that Manning can toss footballs accurately
Ignoring that Gretzky can skate
Ignoring that Jordan came shoot a basketball
Ignoring that Ronaldo can kick a soccer ball
Ignoring that Bonds can hit a 100mph fast ball
