Muhammad Ali
Michael Jordan
Tiger Woods
Out of these three men, who was the most recognized American athlete worldwide?

The way you asked it is the order of their international fame.

I wasn't around for Ali's heyday so I'd have to go with Mike.

America's best player in the world's most popular sport(who I assume is LandyCakes) likely generated considerable fame.
Obviously not on Jordan's level. But at the time of Donovan's peak, probably pretty high.

I don't know why Kobe wouldn't be in the dicussion.
If anyone should be laughed at it should be Ali. Globalization and the reach of the media has expanded dramatically since then, allowing less successful atheltes to more easily achieve fame IMO.

Woods
Jordan
Although Space Jam will have introduced MJ to many (semi joking, was the first id heard of him, but obviously once people start following basketball they know)

It's definitely Jordan. Basketball's global popularity boomed during the '90s when he was at the height of his popularity. Even though he's been retired for 10 years, he's still routinely listed as one of the most popular athletes in the world.
